I have succesfully used MJ 8.0 for some time with my handheld mpio DMK. On replacing old pc (windows os 98 se) with new pc (windows os XP2002) I now get the following after downloading 1 music (mp3) file.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Run time error
Program: C:\Program files\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Media Jukebox.exe
abnormal program terminated
Please help. I am desperate to get my mobile music back.

Did you try installing the software that came with the player? Does it work?
-
mpio manager software works fine. An uninstall followed by a re-install of media jukebox does not rectify the problem. Could this be anything to do with the sony vaio system pre-installed?
-
You need a plugin for the mpio in MC 8, but I do not think they are still available. Do you have access to your old drive? If so, look for a file called hh_mpio.dll or something similar and if you find it, out it in the same location on your new PC and register the file using regsvr.

I have found the file hh_mpio.dll on my new pc in the Plugins folder under Media Jukebox. Intuitively this seems to be the right place for it. You mention register with regsvr. What is regsvr?
-
It is a microsoft application. Go to Start->Run and enter ...
regsvr32 "PATH_TO_DLL"
where PATH_TO_DLL is the path to the hh_mpio_dll and hit enter. Include the quotes.

Tried regsvr but still no joy. Still get run time error when removing files from or transferring files to the handheld player.
-
Did the file register correctly?
If so, then all should be the same as before. If not, this will never work.

Yes the file registered correctly. Looks like I am stuck with the inferior mpio manager software for transferring music to my handheld.
-
Is trying MC 11 an option?
-
MC11 is something to think about but I am reluctant to spend unless there is a guarantee that my MPIO player will work. I am happy with MJ 8.0 apart from this problem.
-
Try accessing your mpio with Windows Media Player. If it works, so will we.
Steve
PS Your mpio does not appear to your PC as a removable or fixed drive in the Explorer tree does it?
-
MPIO doesn't work with Windows Media Player although it finds the device. It is not in their list of supported players.
MPIO doesn't appear as a removable/external drive on my pc.
My dilemma is what to do next. Upgrade MJ to say MC with no guarantee of fixing the problem or to purchase a new (bigger capacity) hanheld player that is supported by MJ, MC and Windows Media Player ? in the hope that something will work. I am currently using the MPIO manager software to download to my handheld but it is not very flexible in creating lists to download.

Jim,
If your device is not recognized by WMP and is not detectable by your PC as a drive, MC 11 will not solve your issue. MC 11 will support any WMDM compatible device(this can be verified by connecting with WMP) or any device that appears as a drive to your system.

Thanks for the help. I am thinking of replacing my MPIO with a larger capacity player. I will certainly check out compatibility with Media Jukebox and Windows Media Player before I make a purchase. It strikes me a strange that a system that once worked on Windows 98 SE doesn't on XP SP2. Is this meant to be progress?
-
Yes. The plugin that was originally written for MPIO was at a time when there were a few devices out there. Times have chnaged. It is too costly and not cost effective to solve every connection issue individually for each device with device manufacturers that may or may not cooperate and who may or may not be able to provide development kits that may or may not work and may or may not be outdated in a month. We provide a broad solution that solves Portable connections for any WMDM devices, any devices that appear as Mass Storage devices and for some players that have wide distribution and good support, we provide individual plugins.
