I just downloaded Lyric Finder from SpartaSoft and I'm having serious issues with it locking MC.
I'll select an album (~12 songs) and make it the only thing in playing now. I'll go into Lyric Finder and select Auto Batch Submit/Get Lyrics. It'll start on the 1st song & get the Lyrics, but that takes 2+ minutes for 1 song AND then proceeds to Lock MC. I have to kill it (MC) & restart.
Any ideas? Any more info I can give you to help?

I also noticed that this version of Lyrics finder is sooooo slow.
It does seem like it is locking up MC, but it is working - it is just very slow. I don't know what it is doing. I put 14,000 songs into my playing now yesterday afternoon and this morning it had only gone through 2k. The version 10 Lyrics finder was much faster.
Definitely not a firewall problem for me....

sometimes it is, but when it kind of locks up it is the FTP control, i have no control over that.
I do know it does work faster than that for most users however.
if J River (Hint Hint) would extend the FTP Control into the SDK I could use something better than a $40 FTP control.
I don't have the money to include a $1,200 FTP control into a free plug-in.

I did a look at the logs, most users are doing a new file every 3 to 7 seconds

I just started using this plug-in with MC11. It does indeed *almost* lock my system (MC response almost stops when it's running) and the downloads are incredibly slow - took 12 hours to get 200 lyric sets?
Still, it *does* do what it says it will so I can't complain! ;)

yeah i get exactly the same symptoms.....system lockup an very very very slow respone...but hey its free and kingsparta does an incredible job so can't complain ;D

I got it
I looked at the log, i seen requests for info by your computer, where another user is requesting info maybe 200+ more times than your system
for some reason your system is laging on opening up a new connection
i have no idea why that would be other than
1. your using a proxy of some sort
2. firewall\network issues with the plug-in
3. i have no clue

FYI:
Acording To "Mark_H" it was a network issue, since it works fast one one of his computers but slow on another.
not sure what that would be other than a slow connection to the router\modem, other routing issues\config, Maybe Port Forwarding?.

To clarify this:
My system is set up as following:
1 x NAS with 1Tb RAID-5 storage.
4 x PCs which map the NAS storage area to their Z: drive
All machines connected via a 1gigabit hub
The hub connected to the broadband modem
My music collection is stored on the NAS and accessed via mapped drives on local PCs.
With MC on any of the PCs, writing tags is *very* slow.
But if I put MC on the NAS (so it has direct access to filestore rather than through mapped drive) tag writing is very quick.
So, it seems that MC doesn't like writing over mapped drives - it works, but it's slow. Anything which writes tags over a mapped drive will see a performance hit. This is why Lyric Finder was running so slow in my system (and clearly it isn't Lyric Finder's fault).
It's not a firewall/network configuration issue.

Was this ever resolved? I have the same issues. I used to use the old Lyrics Finder on MC10 fine, but now I can't get the MC11 one (v2.0.1) to do anything. If I load one song into Now Playing and hit "Auto Batch/Submit" everything freezes and I have to kill MC11 with CTRL-ALT-DEL. I have tried a bunch of port forwarding options with no luck. Can you tell me exactly what ports need to be forwarded, etc... so I can see if that is the problem? Thanks a lot!

maybe you should use two files then
the old one used HTTP
the new one is ftp
FTP works on port 20 and 21, and the program must log-in (Top-Secret)
there are people who use it everyday.
next time a round i will be using another ftp control i paid about $300 for
you may have other issues.
for one one user who was having problems was using windows xp sp2, and the MS firewall was turned on. if the fire wall is on it will not work.

I still can't figure out what's wrong:
- MS Firewall is off
- Router firewall is wide-open (I have forwarded every port... and I have also tried plugging the computer directly into my dorm ethernet connection)
I can connect to ftp sites like ftp.spartsoft.com through IE and download things just fine, but the Lyric Finder and Chart Grabber both freeze up on the very first song in the list.
Any other suggestions for figuring out what's wrong?

I'm using MC v11.0.304 and Lyric Finder v2.0.1...Lyric Finder was hanging MC but was finding lyrics every 30 sec or so (SLOW)...today i started MC and started Lyric Finder and everything was going smooth ;D ...only thing i can think of that different is that DFX plug-in hasn't been started

King, have you ever considered using a .Net Web Service to process Lyrics?
Assuming you have a M$ web server, it is a perfect use of technology. Would be tons faster than FTP and you wouldnt have the hassles of trying to hide the (Top-Secret) log-in info from ppl like me that know how to use a sniffer.

i am just using windows Xp, with Bullet Proof FTP server
like $49 bucks, it works fine
I cant see spending a G-Note, to get things to work

I have not changed the FTP Control In Lyrics Finder.
If And When I Do It Should Fix Part Of The Problem.
Next Week I Am On Vacation And Plan To Work On Changing The FTP Control. Some People Have More Of A Problem With It Than Others.

If your files are on a network drive, please try updating MC to version 11.0.307, available on the MC board here.

Just tried updating to 307 but couldn't get past it trying to download Windows Media Format.
I'm asked whether I want to carry on with installation without it. What should I do?

Let it download and install WM10. This won't work if you're not connected to the Internet, but check the FAQ on this board for a work-around if that's the case.

WMP10 already installed but did manage to upgrade to 307 this morning, maybe a server thing? Hasn't improved Lyric Finder performance but at least stopping it didn't crash MC this time.

WMP10 is not the same as WM10. More info is in the FAQ.

The only thing Lyrics finder does when you click Stop, is exit a loop
