I also use allmusic.com.

I also abandoned the built-in Genre field for one that I defined myself, which I call Genres.  The only difference is that it is a list field, and thus allows me to have multiple entries.  Incidentally, I do the same with style and mood, as well as Artist (Artists).

I hate genrifying (is that a word?:) ) music. Generally I will select 2 or 3 genres and separate them with "/" and I have an "esoteric" genre I use for things I just can't or don't want to pigeonhole.
