Title: DVD play in 2 zones simultaneously?
Post by: zxsix on March 02, 2005, 09:29:44 pm
I have the main "theater room" all set up already.
I'm considering also setting up a 2nd room for DVD and music playback, keeping in mind that both rooms may be wanting to play 2 different movies simultaneously.

Current computer with MC on it has Soundblaster Audigy 2 soundcard.  The digital out sends sound via spdif passthru to a receiver that handles the DD5.1 and DTS decoding.
It sends video to the TV's component video inputs via one of the 2 vga cables of an ATI all-in-wonder 9600 video card.  The other VGA out goes to the pc monitor.

Which of these methods would be the best implementation for adding the 2nd room?

1) Add a second Soundblaster Audigy 2 audio card and send it's digital output to the receiver in the 2nd room.  Add a second video card (no idea what kind since the only AGP slot is already full) and send it's output to the other receiver via component video or s-video.

2) Purchase a second computer for room 2, with similar sound card and video card setup as pc 1.  Connect to pc 1 via library server for the source music and movies.

3) something else I haven't considered.
