As I was afraid of having a lot of duplicate filenames, I cleared the library and imported all
media again.
This went find, except ... I had some user-defined fieldnames:
Composer_Last
Artist_Last
Where I inserted the lastname of the Composer/Artists.
These fieldnames have gone... ?
Do I now have to add them for all my records again.....??
Hope not!

You probably did not mark the checkbox "Store in file tags" under options-library for these custom fields. So this information was only in the database.
If you have backups of your library you should be able to restore that information and then change the settings for these fields.
Hope this helps...

Try adding those field names again.

I have restored a recent back, the fields are there again.
Now " "Store in file tags" under options-library " - sorry - pls wud you give a further hint where
I can find that option.
Tools/Options-but then... sorry.
tks again!

"Store in file tags (when possible)" is in the field specific options in MC 11: Options > Library > Library Fields > Add or Edit. I think the place was a bit different in MC10. Anyway, it is the same place where you originally created the fields.
You can see from File Type Info in Action Window if your custom fields are included in the physical file tags. MC does not automatically create new fields when you import files. You must first define the fields as Jim said.
After you have re-created your custom fields and made them visible in your view settings you can use "Update Library (from tags)" tool for filling the information. Of course you can also create the fields before importing.

Thanks. I am afraid there is no such option in MC10(.0.173)... Figure this feature should still be added,
so users hv no problem when upgrading to MC11.
Assume MC11 will not 'recognize'/import these MC10-customfields, so these fields will be gone during
the transition... ?

Yes, there is and has always been in MC 9/10/11.
I checked the place in MC10:
Options > Tree & View > Library Fields: > Edit
(http://www.adart.pp.fi/mc/pix/customfield.gif)

You can just restore an MC10 library backup to an empty library in MC11. It will create all fields. It doesn't matter if the files have physical tags. Some file types cannot contain any standard tags (e.g. wave, video, documents) and some library entries don't have corresponding files at all (e.g. internet radio addresses or tracks imported from cue sheets in MC11).

Many thanks!! Now I found it... Yesterday I got already close to that specific window, but did not know
what to do there.
Happy to see that MC11 will use the MC10 userdefined fields.
Again - thanks.
BTW: I wanted to show my 'results' (picture-just like you, but frankly I haven't a clue as how
to insert such a picture).
In my case category it says: "Calculated"
Data type: String
Edit type: standard
Values: blanc - nothing inserted
Search: Keywords (blanc)
Default Search field: un-tagged, will tag that.
Is this okay ?
(Am not familiar with these matters)
