Title: Remote listening?

OK, I'm stupid, and here's a really stupid question.

All my MC stuff is on my home computer.

Our IT guys won't let us install any software on our machines here at work.

Is there any way that I can connect to my home computer from work (through the internet) and somehow listen to my home music collection here at the office?

If your IT guys forbid it, you'd be mad to cross them.

I'm a System Administrator, and woe betide anyone who tries this sort of thing where I work. They're just trying to maintain some sort of control over their network, and you can't blame them for that, in this day and age...

Buy an iPod or Nomad, and cart your Muzak to work with you...

If you're using Windows XP (at home and work) you could in theory use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to your home PC from work and access your music.

However there may be a number of problems. Firstly your IT guys may have removed Remote Desktop Connection from your PC and even if they haven't they may have blocked the port required to use it over the internet. Assuming you can successfully make a connection you might well find that your internet connection isn't quick enough or reliable enough to play music without skipping.

Finally I would have to agree with LunchmeatVoom and say keep in the good books of your IT guys, so talk to them before you try any of what I've suggested.
