Hi,
Three days later and I still cant get MP3 encoding to work on MJ. I have downloaded and reinstalled the software twice, and each time I'm told that the MP3 encoder has not been installed on the system and I'm prompted to download it ..... I try and then an MJ Reader box pops up saying "failed to connect to a server."
My questions are as follows:
1. Should the MP3 encoder not ship with the full MJ download!? has everyone else had to download it seperately? if so, then why is that?
2. Is there a problem with the download server at J River?
If not
3. Can anyone suggest what could be wrong at my end, perhaps in my settings, or browser settings that could be causing this? Could there be a clash with other ripping software that I have installed - Easy CD-DA?
4. I cannot download anything at all through MJ - eg. in the start menu where it says "for the latest MJ news click here" when I click it says once again "failed to connect to a server" .... does this problem sound familiar to anyone?
I'm using V8.0.388 running on XP and yes I use Internet explorer.
I really would like to get this resolved asap as it is such a basic issue & I have now been banging on about it for 3 days ..... basically I'm unable to use what I have paid for.
Thanks

Ad,
Some firewall settings problem ?
Here's a way around :
- 1. Go to the encoders download page (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/downloads/plugins.pl?type=7&start=0&end=10&page=1)
- 2. Select the encoder you need, and right-click on it's download link > Save as.. in the folder you want.
- 3. Open the downloaded file (enc_mp3.mjp for instance) with Notepad and you'll find a link to the DLL
- 4. Use this link to download the enc_mp3.zip file
- Unzip it into Program Files\J River\MediaJukebox\Plugins
- 5. Go into MJ > Settings > Plugins Manager > Encoder and check if it's there.
You can do it for any MJ plugins (but I hope you solve your problem in the mean time).

Hi Again,
When I'm trying to rip CD's the CD info doesnt appear, and I can't seem to connect to the CDDB or YADB server! Is there something I need to do in my settings etc?
From reading through the rest of the forum I see that CDDB isn't an option anymore - although I find it strange that you can select it within MJ if its not supported.
So - I guess the question is when I try to update the CD info why do I get a box saying "Failed to connect to YADB Server" ??
Any help greatfully appreciated again!

See if you can isolate problem to MJ.
Are u familiar with EAC? It uses FreeDB (YADB's dad). See if u can pull up CD info with it. If so then there's something funky with MJ. If not then u have a some kind of a internet setup problem.

Hey Fasty,
Yip got it all sorted in terms of connecting / downloading stuff - turned out to be a proxy setting screwing things up. Thanks again for your help coz that got the MP3 encoder problem sorted way before I got the rest of this resolved.
Funny now though that I've been ripping away like a mad thing for the last 3 hours since I got connection to YADB ...... and now the darn database is down apparently!! .... no luck eh!
anyway cheers buddy
