Hi,
I am new to the forum and the product...is there a FAQ section anywhere in this forum?
Also, what kinds of remote controls can be used with this software?
-
The FAQ's are in the 3rd Topic from the top of the forum.http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=10029.0
And there are several remotes that can be used, including the ATI RF Remote Wonder, with IRMan, you can use any IR remote. You can find out more by doing a forum search, (see header at the top of the forum page). Thru netremote and Girder there are many more ways to remotely operate MC.

Thank you for responding. Will the remote that ships with the MSI Mega 180 barebones PC work with this software also?
-
If it's an infrared remote you should be able to "teach" MC the commands (assuming you have the IRman plugin installed), otherwise you may have to resort to Girder to customize the commands.
Hopefully someone else with a bit more experience with remotes will add the comments here.
I use the ATI Remote Wonder that came with my video card.

I can understand wanting a "normal" remote. But after looking into Girder and Netremote I decided to keep it simple and just use a wireless keyboard. This IR unit works really well and is not expensive: http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Keyboard/sk7100.asp It has an integrated mouse so you don't have to keep track of two separate components. And, obviously, you have full control of MC and all other computer functions. Nice for surfing the web while listening to music.

I believe this would also work??

It looks like it would work, however it only has a 6ft (2m) range. I would try for something with at least a 25ft range. Try Logitec or Gyration, I'm sure there are others.

Any experiences with the Logitech Harmony 688? Should work like a charm, shouldnt it ?

I'm not personally familiar with it. If the specs match up with the "Liteon" keyboard the Jakester referenced, it should be fine.
The 30$ they want for that Lite-On is a good price. I would be suspicious of anything for much less than 25-30$.
-
Great! I will buy the Liteon then...
I believe the Logitech Harmony is a remote control and not a keyboard like the liteon.
-
Correct. The Harmony is a Remote (see header of this threat) 8)

To be honest, in my media room, I use a Gyration RF keyboard & mouse and the ATI remote. The remote kinda goes with me from room to room. I basically just use the remote's playback functions and volume control, (it's quicker than using the keyboard). But then the remote keyboard is great for access to everything else from the PC in the other room.
I like the fact that the Lite-On keybord has the mouse built in.
