I'm on the .230 build, and notice that MC11 is building all thumbnails everytime I do an Import Media.
-
It's actually just checking to see if it needs to build. It should only take a few seconds.
We changed the language in the latest build.
-
You should update from 230. It has a memory leak.

20 minutes for 56,000 files?
-
I'm on build .232 now, the wording is "updating thumbnails", it is taking considerably more than a few seconds...
-
I saw this as well, but only the first time after I installed the latest version. It took 3:15 to "Update thumbnails" for 12k files. I don't see this step on subsequent imports.
-
Still doing it. I did an Import Media, it said "updating thumbnails" for 56,000 files, took about 30 minutes.
Quit MC11.
Restarted it. Did an Import Media again, same behaviour.

232 working okay for me ...it's really fast.

I see this has been fixed in .233 - thanks.
-
Nope, still doing it in build .241. Rebuilding 56,000 thumbnails takes about 10-15 minutes.
It would be nice if this were fixed. Apart from this, Import Media is pretty quick.
-
Hi there this is really slow for me as well. Also the option for "update" library has gone. Is this intentional? As this was handy to just remove links to files that i have moved (purposely)
Cheers

In build .245, still updating all thumbnails, everytime, on Import Media. Takes about 20 minutes for 56,000 files. It is the most time-consuming part of an Import operation.
-
And with .246. It seems like the first time after installing a new build, it updates all thumbnails.
The next time I start the program after this, it takes about 5 minutes. After that all is normal.
Logging is off.
-
I just tested with MC11.0.246. With 10,500 images, import of image files took about 10 seconds. It said "updating thumbnails" for a second or two.
What's different? A network drive?
You don't have MC set to erase thumbnails on exit, do you?
-
When I last tried this loading a different local library made all previous thumbnails unsynchronized, thus redundant:

-
I tried it quickly again. It seems to happen only when the thumbnail exit behaviour "Erase orphans" is enabled when loading libraries.
-
I use MC importing from a network drive (not 50k files but about 17k) and while the thumbnail build process does take longer than importing from a local drive, it's certainly not 15-20 minutes (I'd say 60-120 seconds and the "scan" of the existing files in the database takes signifigantly longer than it).
Of course, I have a reliable switched Gigabit network so...
-
There was a bug where multiple libraries could get created with the same "unique" key. This key was used to pick a thumbnail folder. It caused multiple libraries to try to share the same folder.
The next build will create a new key for each database to fix this.
If you see this problem, you'll need to load each database with write access using MC 11.0.247 or newer. (not when connected to Media Server)
You may also want to erase your thumbnails in Options > Tree & View > Thumbnails
Thanks everyone.
-
Build .247, 29:15 to import 30 files. Once again 25 minutes spent updating thumbnails for 56,000 files.
Logging is off.
Thumbnails on exit behavior is set to "leave".

gpvillamil,
Did you try Matt's direction in the message above?
You've got something "special" going on. I don't think anyone else is seeing exactly what you are.
If I were in your shoes, I'd start over with a new library.

gpvillamil,

OK, will do, any advice on moving view schemes & smartlists to a new library?
-
How about just setting up a new library using File/Library/Library Manager, just to test.
