Title: DirectX host problems
Post by: thomaspf on April 07, 2005, 07:35:06 pm
Hi,

I have the directX host installed on 3 different machines and I use it with the ntrack ParEQ plugin for room equalization. Two of these machines are using an ASIO card and I don't know whether this is related but I am having similar problems on both machines. When the plugin is active the sound gets into loops and when killing the process mediacenter.ex is lingering around.

The same setup on a machine where I use Directsound works without problems. I only tried this on one machine but when I switch to DirectSound from ASIO the problem goes away as well.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Is there some noticable difference between the two modes?

I'm sure you've checked the soundcard support site for any issues with the card, drivers, and ASIO interaction with directx.

Do you have another directx capable app to play through?

Just verified this on my third machine with an M-audio DIO24/96. Switching to Directsound makes the problem go away.

The other machine that shows the same problem uses an ESI Juli@. I run the latest drivers for both cards.

I run ntrack on both machines and that seems to work fine with the same plugin and ASIO. I have no idea why there could be an interaction between the DirectX host and the ASIO output driver (unless there is a threading issue?)

And yes there is a difference between DirectSound and ASIO for both of these cards.

Hmmmm, I've never heard a difference with several cards personally, but if you do then I guess determining a solution is in order.

I'd really appreciate that....

Bump!

I understand you guys want to ship MC11 and this probably does not make your bar. However, I would at least like to get an ack on this with some hope you will look at it down the road.

Cheers

We're quiet because it's a head scratcher.

It may be that performance stalls from the DSP cause ASIO more troubles.  Does changing the buffering make any difference?

Sorry we don't know more...
