Title: locking up
Post by: wayneamurphy on April 08, 2005, 09:44:14 am
I'm been having the problem with MC locking up once in a while - I have to end the task to get out of Media Centre.
I had the problem occasionally in v10 and a bit in beta 11 as well.
Today though I start up MC and I just get the initial screen but everything (menu bar, tree control on the left, action menu, ... ) is frozen.
I have rebooted a couple of times, and even installed the latest beta of MC11 - but it is still completely locked up.
Before I do a complete uninstall & reinstall - is there anything I can investigate (logs, registry, other settings) to see what the problem is?

Second to that question; before I do a complete uninstall - is there a way to backup my playlists and song ratings?

Thanks.

Any third party plug-ins?

Other programs like virus checkers, pop-up blockers, firewalls, etc. can sometimes mis-fire.

Do you have a constant Internet connection or is it dialup?

To save your play lists and other data, copy the C>Program Files>J River folder to another folder outside of J River/MC, for example to: C: J River Backup. Or copy individual files in the J River folder to the new backup folder.

Actually I didn't find out the exact cause - but it was the plugins.
I had Lyric Finder & Album Cover Finder.
I removed those and then it started working.

I wonder if one of the plug-ins was working but not showing any activity.

Thanks for reporting the solution.

it was "Update Coverart"

that plug-in works all the time, and if the ftp control acts up or the user is not conneced to the internet it will freeze MC

there is a option to turn it off and put it in batch mode

I am going to take the plug-in off-line
