Title: MC 11 problem with saving custom view
Post by: BlueGlow on April 24, 2005, 12:14:19 pm
I have a playlist group called "iPod Playlists" with many child playlists.

I customize the "iPod Playlists" view with a new custom column and apply it.
Then I select "Save this view for this location and sub-locations".
The view is saved for "iPod Playlists" but it is not applied to the child playlists.

I haven't used this feature before so I don't know how it should behave.

Should the parent playlist group view be applied to all child playlists when I select this command? Is this a bug?

Thanks.

It may be a bug -- we'll take a look.

This is still a problem in .255.

"Sub-locations" is misleading in playlists.

Currently, view info for playlists is stored like this:

Playlist Type (playlist, group, etc.)
   Playlist ID

So, a playlist won't look at parent playlists to get view information.  "Sub-locations" really means other playlists of the same type.

It was done this way so that moving playlists around wouldn't cause unexpected results, but perhaps we should revisit this in the next version.

Thanks BlueGlow.

I still don't quite understand what "save this view for this location and sub-locations" will do. Could you give me an example?

Can anyone provide an example of a sub-location?

I need help with the above problem too.  I have a playlist group that currently has 106 individual playlists within and this playlist group will continue to grow. I use this playlist group for dj'ing.  I just installed v. 11 and all my custom views were gone.  I tried collapsing the playlist group, customizing the view, and then saving/applying to all child locations...no luck.

Am i forced to recreate the same view for all 106 playlists individually?

Thanks

dNj, please see my reply above.  We agree that this should be revisited next version.
