Title: Backups created whe importing media
Post by: Deivit on May 08, 2005, 10:20:14 am
Hi,

When importing media, MC automatically creats a backup of the library. Where are those backups stored?... I can't find them

Hi Deivit,

Look somewhere in
C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library Backups
that should be the default location for library backups with MC11.

I vote that the backups should go to your backup folder as designated in options. It took me a while to find one of these auto backups when i actually needed to use it and I panicked when i looked and couldnt find it in my backups folder.

Thanks for the info, Christian. I'm gonna check it when I get home tonight  :)

There's no such folder under "Documents and Settings" I have also looked in Program Files\JRiver\Media Center\....\Backups and they aren't there neither. My regular library backups are manually stored in a different volume unit.

It's probably something with my own setup, since I don't seem to have any "Application Data" folder neither under my [user name] nor under [All users].

It's not that I need any of those automatic backups right now, but I was wondering where they were in case I need them and whether they were adding up unnecessary disc space.

Thank you.

David,

That's strange, maybe in C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data ?

I understand your concern about disk space and I 'm monitoring my automatic backups. Each backup of my 17000 tracks lib is about 2.5 MB. I only keep the last 20 backups.

You have to have the "show hidden folders" option turned on (in win2k). Then goto docs & settings and you'll see a folder called "default user", in there you'll find the application data folder.

Thank you very much Modelmaker! Turned on the "show hidden folders" and finally found the "application data" folder under the "user" folder... and the backups were there  ;)

I was right to be concerned about the disc space usage. The folder was 1,25 GB !! Thank you too, Christian  :)

Perhaps it would be a good idea to somehow automatically limit the number of backups stored, so that the new ones overwrite the older ones.
