Post by: EpF on May 09, 2005, 06:34:36 pm
I had to restart windows after installing .261 - is that normal?

Edit: Sorry, I meant .262...

I am not sure why, but sometimes it does sometimes not, i think it may be due to something maybe running (dll or something).

the last new build tonight said to reboot, i deselected the check box

Yeah, that rings a bell.  In fact I think I remember starting MC after an install which ended with a reboot dialogue, just for the hell of it, and it did work as you say.  Is this a bug?  I made sure to close my existing MC before installing...

Some components (shell extensions, etc.) can't be unloaded once the system loads them.  That means a reboot is needed to replace the file.

I do not have shell extensions enabled, and MC is not running when I install.

I have gotten the reboot message in 2 of the last 3 builds.

Sure wish I knew ahead of time if it was going to require a reboot or not. I normally have a number of programs running for my development and I cross my fingers every install that I see "Run installed program" instead of "Restart Windows now". It's a pain to have to restart all the programs again but I guess a clean reboot is good once in a while.  ;)
