I'm still having an issue when shutting down MC 11. When I exit out of the app, I notice the icon in the system tray remains for several seconds. After about 15 seconds or so Media Center crashes. The text below is in the event log...
"Faulting application media center.exe, version 11.0.262.0, faulting module media center.exe, version 11.0.262.0, fault address 0x003095a5."
This issue started with build 255 and has continued with each build, thru 262.
I have had to back rev Media Center to build 254, which works fine when shutting down the application.
If you need any other info let me know.
Thanks.

Are you running AudioScrobbler? Or other third party plug-ins?
Anything else unusual?
Have you let MC finish importing? Try waiting a half hour or so.
-
No third party plug-ins. It's a clean install.
Since I was upgrading from one build to another, no importing was necessary - my library was intact.
Should I clear my library and re-import?
Another thing that is weird is when I uninstall Media Center, it actually launches Media Center about 2/3 thru the uninstall (strange). I need to close the app (which crashes during exit) to finish the uninstall. This is just with this last build (262), the others, the uninstall works fine.
My machine is fairly clean, nothing out of the ordinary. I just rebuilt it (due to a hard disk failure) at the end of March.
Like I said in my other posts, build 254 (and previous) work great - it's just the builds after 254 that cause this crash on exit problem.
Thanks for your help.

My guess is that another program, like a virus checker, may be causing problems.
See if you can find anything in this thread:

Interesting.
MC 11 build 262 crashes on my second PC the same way. I installed over top of build 250, which was working fine.
I'll keep looking and let you know what I come up with.
Thanks.

Are you playing anything when you exit?
I can't duplicate this.
-
No.
I start MC, play a song for a few seconds (any song - all are MP3). Hit stop (the song stops playing). Then choose File -> Exit.
The main MC screen goes away, except for the system tray icon. It stays for about 5-10 seconds then I get the error about Media Center crashing.
I have completely removed the app from my second computer (cleaned registry, MC directories, etc...). I'm re-installing 262 clean and seeing what happens.
I'll let you know.
-
Are the files local? Or on a network drive?
-
- All files are local.
- The complete uninstall/reinstall didn't make any difference. It still crashes. It even crashed on exit before I imported my songs (I went in for the first time, canceled the import routine. Then I chose File-> Exit - 5 seconds went by then crash).
- The uninstall has the same problem on my second PC that it did on my first PC. About 2/3 of the way thru, the Uninstall routine launches Media Center.
- AntiVirus software is McAfee VirusScan Enterprise version 8i. I tried running Media Center with AntiVirus disabled with no change in results.
I can send you, via email, the list of all the DLL's (with version info) and other data files Media Center is using on my PC if you wish. (pulled with Process Explorer by SysInternals)
Let me know.
Thanks.

Can anyone else reproduce this? Or confirm that it doesn't happen?
-
Strange. I have reproduced this issue on 2 other systems. A clean WinXP SP2 system (just Windows installed, no 3rd party apps) and a clean Win2000 Pro SP4 system.
I'm still trying to track down what is going on.
Weird.

Maybe the file is bad. Try downloading the one just released.
-
What if you play a different file?
What if you don't play a file?
What if you close using Alt+F4 instead of the mouse?
Thanks.
-
Build 263 has the same issue.
I don't need to play a file.
I just go into the app, click on a couple things in the tree view (It starts on "Start", I then click "Playing Now" then "Media Library"). Choose File -> Exit --- then the app crashes.
However, I tried the Alt + F4 as you suggest, and it will not crash if I exit the app that way. I tried it about 10 times with the Alt+F4 with no crashes. I then tried the File -> Exit way of closing the app again and it crashed.
Interesting...

This issue has been fixed in build 264. Excellent work!
