Title: Name Field Missing
Post by: canaro99 on May 10, 2005, 10:18:23 pm
Help!

I don't know what's going on (that can certainly be construed in many ways) but since I upgraded (?) to 260+ version of 11 the name field no longer fills in when placing previously ripped and submitted to yadb cds. This is now becoming a real pain in the hind quarters.

Does anyone know what's going on? The prospect of re-entering every song name is ridiculous.

John

Are you saying that you get Album & Artist, but all track names are missing? That is very strange.

I get all fields just fine from the online CD database and from the local "CPplayer.ini" file too (I tried both).

Alex,

I know it's strange; I can't figure it out. The attached screenshot will show I'm not imaging things. This problem appeared after installing 260 (or one of the high 250s) where I had to (for the first time) restart windows after the install. The program has never been the same since and this is a MAJOR PAIN.

Both of these CDs have been played and ripped previously. The result is the same with every CD I put in the CD player in the computer--NO NAME.

BTW, this is with 263

I think you are showing MC's internal CD database. Those other fields are not included in the online CD database. I guess you lost the track names from the internal database at the same time when you lost your other track names (you posted about that earlier). Matt & co, does it work in that way?

You could make a new empty library and rip to it. Check also your "CDplayer.ini" file in the Windows folder. Open it with Notepad. If the track names are missing you could replace it with an empty file. After that MC should check the online database when you insert a CD.

It might be more difficult if you like to merge your existing library information with the CD database information. Perhaps it is not impossible, but it needs several steps and probably using other programs besides MC. Do you still have your old files and a library for them present?

CDs inserted do not show the name field.

Before this post, fill from cdplayer or fill from cd database did not work -- they now do.

I can't figure this out. Although this process works, in the past inserting cds always filled in either standard db fields or my own fields (in the case of previously entered data). The fact that all other fields except name will fill is the perplexing issue and still not convenient (but not a fatal problem).

Alex, thanks for the ideas so far. Any other possibilities?

Depending on how you have your files named, you can use the Library Tools to fill the tags.

Jim,

Thanks. Started doing that. Any ideas on what has caused this problem? I'd like to avoid it in the future if I've done something. (I'm not doing anything different since version 8 or 9 when I started.

A slip of the fingers during edit?

Third party plug-ins?

Other tagging programs?

Jim, I understood that canaro99 is going to rip new files. Because of the earlier library corruption the MC database don't have track names for the CDs. There are no ripped files yet.

I did a little test.

I tagged one of my CDs further. After that I deleted the album and name fields and changed the artist name.

Then I right-clicked the disc icon in MC Tree and updated the CD information from "CDPlayer.ini" and from "CD Database" too.

In both cases MC filled the empty fields and corrected the artist name, but it didn't change my custom fields. Have you tried that?

Alex,

I'll check also. Thanks for the help. I've got to go to work or I'm going to have to fire myself (wishful thinking).

I hope it works. Have a nice day.

Wasn't this answered previously? Something has interrupted MC at the moment when it was saving the "field (name).jmd" file, perhaps a program crash.

Once my MC crashed during analyzing new files and I didn't check my library properly after that. At first sight it seemed to be OK and I just continued.

Two weeks later I noticed that about 5000 files were missing the analyze information. My newer library backups were updated with the corrupted information and the older were unusable because of several big changes. I could rescue the information partly from the file tags, but I had to reanalyze about 1300 cue tracks.

Alex, Jim, et. al.

Just got home from work; installed 264; loaded a cd and viola! no problems.

Don't know what to say except, "Thanks for the ideas; glad 264 works; and great job."
