Title: Please improve internet radio!
Post by: ahbrown41 on May 17, 2005, 08:54:16 am
I love MC but the support for internet radio is poor....  I use MC as a library server and as a Tivo server for my music collection and neither of them work.  Then many stations do not work in the Web Media browser.  I have added the playlists for my favorite stations but this has strange effects in MC when syncing to handhelds and browsing music.

This is one feature that has been forever left behind.  I think it deserves some attention...

Thanks!

Me too.

The internet radio in MC doesn't work with Real Alternative, but the stations i listen to (BBC) are fine with Real Alternative through IE.

A way to bookmark the "Listen Again" stuff from the BBC would also be nice.

I listen to BBC radio all the time using MC and the Real Alternative codecs. When you use IE, you're using the Real Alternative IE plugin, when it comes to MC, you need to point MC directly to the stream itself, not to the BBC's javascript player.
Here is a snippet from the BBC FAQ: (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/audiohelp.shtml?focuswin)
Quote
Can you give me the direct URL of your audio streams?
Sorry, but we can only offer support for streaming via the Radio Player and cannot give out direct URLs.

Can I listen to BBC Radio programmes using iTunes?
There are no plans at present to use iTunes to distribute our programmes - the Radio Player is currently the only way to listen again to BBC Radio shows.

so you see, MC could find itself in hot water with the BBC legal team if it encroaches too far. It's a really grey area and one I'm not at all up to speed with.
Now, if the end user can apply a little lateral thinking and determine the source url of the stream for themselves, then offer those up to MC, then MC will play them ;)

If you would like the url's I use for the BBC, drop me a pm and I'll send them to you.
