I installed the latest versions of MC 11, and have been having problems. On startup, the program brings up the error message "Couldn't Create Web Remote Listener." It then brings up a second message, "Failed to start remote server." The program then seems to load if I simply click on OK in the error dialogue boxes.
I then notice that the TIVO server is showing as started as indicated by these items associated:
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Starting...
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Trying Port 8070
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Running on Port 8070
However, I cannot get the program to work with TIVO. The TIVO desktop server works fine when I check the TIVO menu on my TV, and I can play music or photos with no problem. However, the Media Center server does not work. It shows up as an option for both music and photos on the TIVO menu. However, when I try to play music I get the error message, "An unexpected error occured while accessing the server.... (Error # 3-5-6)."
If I then try to start the photos section, I get the error message, "An unexpected error occured while accessing the server.... (Error # 5-6)."
Even after that, I can go back and play music or photos using the TIVO server.
I have tried changing the port that Media Center is running on, but that does not make a difference.
Any suggestions?

I need the full set of messages including those appearing while the error occurs.
Thanks,

The previous post had all the messages that I am receiving.

I have this problem too and the same amount of information. :-\
I tried both JavaHMO and Galleon and they work perfect.

What version are you running? What is showing on the status page?

v10 worked fine. I haven't really ever had v11 work right. All the builds I've tried lately are
05/17/2005 09:12 AM 14,831,472 MediaCenter110269.exe
05/17/2005 10:54 PM 14,831,168 MediaCenter110270.exe
05/20/2005 11:50 PM 12,254,360 MediaCenter110274.exe
06/02/2005 11:11 PM 12,267,152 MediaCenter110282.exe
06/03/2005 09:03 PM 12,263,200 MediaCenter110283.exe
None of these work.
06/03/05 21:06:47 - Starting...
06/03/05 21:06:47 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
06/03/05 21:06:47 - Running on Port 8079
06/03/05 21:07:27 - Bad Request: Unknown Command /TiVoConnectCommand=FlushServer
06/03/05 21:07:33 - Bad Request: Unknown Command /TiVoConnectCommand=FlushServer
It happens with convert and do not convert turned on. Happens if port is selected auto or manual (currently set to manual).
Running latest Tivo Desktop 2. (It's server is not turned on, but beacon is running.)

I am running version 11.0.280. The error I get on the TIVO screen on TV is simply - An unexpected error occured while accessing the server - (Error#3-5-6).
That's for audio. For photos, I get the same thing only the error is (Error#5-6).
After getting the error, by Media Center dialogue for the TIVO plug-in shows:
06/03/05 19:58:39 - Starting...
06/03/05 19:58:39 - Trying Port 8070
06/03/05 19:58:39 - Adding server to TiVo beacon

06/03/05 20:04:03 - Bad Request: Unknown Command /TiVoConnectCommand=FlushServer

What's your computer name?
I can't reproduce this here, I tried both with our Beacon and with TiVo's Beacon. Any info you can give me would help...

I'm running a Gateway 700XL. MediaCenter was working fine with TIVO until I upgrade to MC 11 from 10. The machine runs at 3.2 GHx, and I have 1 gig of memory installed.
I just tried to access the Media Center my TV, and got the same error messages that I posted before. The TIVO server is working fine, and I can play music and pictures through that with no problem.
I then went back to Media Center and looked at the TIVO Server dialogue box, and it still shows:
06/06/05 18:23:48 - Starting...
06/06/05 18:23:48 - Trying Port 8070
06/06/05 18:23:48 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
06/06/05 18:23:48 - Running on Port 8070.
So even though there is no error message, it is not working. I am running the Auto Port Selection.
The only thing that has changed for me is the upgrade from MC 10 to 11.

Mine's a homebuilt Athlon XP 2500+ (need to put in my 3000+ oops) running on an Asus A7V333 Revision 2 motherboard with 1 GB ram.
Windows XP Pro SP2 w/ latest patches.
Running Panda Anti-virus
I have 2 different tivos this happens to. MC10 worked fine just as IrishDerby stated. Tivo Desktop works, JavaHMO works, Galleon beta works.
Have ran it with just the Tivo beacon going and the Tivo server stopped.
The only commonality between our machines seems to be the 1GB ram. I am running a fairly fresh install of Windows XP (slipstreamed SP2 that is less than a 3 months old because of a hard drive glitch). Then again I didn't have much luck getting MC11 to work before the crash either. I switched back to MC10 then.

If a kind volunteer would download Ethereal (www.ethereal.com), and run a sniff while the error occurs, that would help me. Send it to gateley @ jriver.com

Also - what version of the TiVo software is running? (Not the desktop, the software on the TiVo box itself).

both of mine are running 7.1b-01-2-240
will try to get ethereal ran in a bit.

Thanks for the sniff, Blackforge.
I need more info. Add a DWORD registry key named:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Plugins\Interface\TiVo Server\TiVo Debug
and set it's value to 1.
Then try to connect from the TiVo, and post the contents of the status page.

Make sure it is spelled and capitalized correctly. The T, V, and D are capital, and there is a space beteween TiVo and Debug.

Here's the export from my registry. Looks like I did it right to me.

You said
"Add a DWORD registry key named:

and set it's value to 1."
Which is what this shows

I'm confused - I'm getting two different stories. The network sniff you sent me showed that the TiVo stopped trying to connect almost immediately. The status page info shows you are able to navigate down into the tree before it stops trying. Is it a sporadic error?
j
-
Well it never actually is able to play anything. Sometimes it immediately fails to drill down from the top level. Other times it will let you go a few levels down and then fail when you try to play something. A majority of the time it is an immediate failure.
-
Ok, I need a network sniff and a post of the status page taken at the same time - I need them to go together.
Thanks,
j
-
This is odd. Just tried the latest build (293) and I'm able to actually play some of my playlists. I do receive the #3-5-6 error, but I'm actually able to do things now. I only received the error once so far after starting it. Before when it would error out it would clear tivo of the Media Center entries.
I can reproduce the #3-5-6 error sometimes by playing a file for little bit (30 seconds or more) then trying to back out to the main media center music menu.
-
Did you receive my Ethereal and TiVo Debug logs?
-
Just took a look. Something strange is going on. You are running the TiVo server on port 8079, but there is also activity between the TiVo and port 8081. Are you running another (different) server? Looks like the TiVo is talking to them both at the same time, and this could be the source of the problems.
Do a netstat -an and look for 8081.
j
-
Thats probably JavaHMO. I forgot to turn it off when doing the tests. I know for a fact though, that it doesn't matter either way (whether javahmo is on or off) I still receive the same errors.
-
That sounds right, the server header says something about Java. Can you get me a sniff with it turned off. The TiVo is talking to both at once, and that is very strange.
j
-
John,
Was there ever a resolution to this issue? I'm seeing the same symptoms.
Thanks...
-
What version of Media Center are you running? Are you running JavaHMO or anything else that is talking to the TiVo?
j
-
John,
I'm running Media Center ver. 11.1.172. I'm not using JavaHMO; the only other thing that should be talking to the Tivo is Galleon (latest version), which is working just fine. I also have SlimServer running on ports 9000 and 9090.
I have Ethereal logs and netstat -abn outputs, but haven't had the time to trace the different port conversations for conflicts. I was hoping that you found an easy solution to point me in the right direction when you were looking at this before.
Many thanks...
-
If you'll send me the logs, I'll take a look... (gateley @ jriver.com)
