Title: is deskbar coming back?
Post by: dedidio on May 27, 2005, 04:46:48 am
I used this program quite a bit while it was in beta but then the trial expired and that was the last we heard (to my knowledge anyway).

Any plans to bring it back? It was pretty nifty.

Cheers

Tried it out again and I am unfortunately very dissapointed.

Since I last had it there appears to have been new features added that make it run extremely slow for me.

I click in the deskbar, explorer freezes for 5 full seconds and then I get the list that pops up.

I type "stop" and it takes a further 2 seconds for the letters to s l o w l y appear.
I then press enter and it says mjextman.exe not found.

Wondering why things were so slow I had a look at what was in the list .....
every file within 'my documents' (all 42'000 of them)
all my start menu  (all 580 of them)
all my web favourites (all 100 of them)
and then there was the stuff I was expecting - media controls, searches etc.

I figured I would take a look at the config xml documents hoping that I could turn some of the features off but from what I can tell this is not possible.

Is there any way to change some of this behaviour?
It is unusable for me at the moment, and I used to really appreciate it.

Or Copernic Desktop Search (http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/69.htm#review1). Don't have the same 'ugly' terms as Google's (the link goes to a review in Scot's newsletter).

If I were in the market for a desktop search engine, I'd try the newest MSN search and I love Copernic's offering. It is getting towards the magic 3rd effort from MS on the MSN Search tool.
