I created a list type field called Category and now want to change what's in the list. I went into Options - Library and changed the list. Back in the Library it still shows the old list.
I restarted MC and the changes are still there in the option page but the old values still show in the library.
I deleted the Category field, created a new Category field with the new values but still no change.
How do I do this?
Thanks.

Come on, doesn't anyone know what's going on here?
Even if I delete my Category property completely and make a new Category property as a string it still appears as a list.
Does this mean I can't have a Category property anymore?

Well, first, it's the weekend, so maybe you'll have better luck getting some official support on this tomorrow when the JRiver crew are back at their desk. :)
Second, this is just wild speculation and maybe out of left field, but perhaps it has something to do with your tags. I mean, maybe the "old" custom field was stored in the tags, so even though you deleted the library field, you didn't actually delete the raw data. <big shrug>
Maybe delete the field and do an Update Tags from Library thing. <shrug> Of course, do that at your own risk! :P

Tried removing field and updating tags from library but it just says 282 files updated, 281 failures and the field is still there.
There is an option there to 'Remove Tags' but that will probably remove all my tags so I'm not touching that.
So, one field that I want to remove or edit, how do I do that?

I didn't test this, but it might be worth of trying:
1. Backup your library.
2. Delete your old Gategory field.
3. Make a new field named Gategory, Data type: String, Edit type: Standard.
4. Select all files with that field and change the value to 0.
5. Select the files again and delete the value. MC should now remove the field also from the file tags.
6. Remove the Gategory field from your library and your view settings.
7. Make the Gategory field again with your own settings.
You could make a small temporally library to a different location for testing.
I hope this helps.

Can't follow your suggestion Alex cos after step 3 I'm back to a list. I did enter 0 into the value but that just gets added to the list.
What I've got now is a library field in Library options which is a string style, standard but in the actual library it is a list box.
Just out of interest, what is the edit button for on the Library option page?

Thanks marko but I have no field(category).jmd in my Library folder, in fact none of my custom fields are in there. Should they be?
There is a 'custom 1' field there but I don't know what that is.
As to the edit button question, that was meant to be sarcastic cos clicking on it to edit my Category field is what started this whole thing.
If it helps, all my custom fields were created in MC10 and moved to MC11 as a backup restore. MC10 is no longer on my system.
Any of the developers like to chime in at this point?

At last!
Marko was right.
My field (category).jmd was actually in my library folder, not Docs and Settings and following Marko's suggestion sorted me out.
The question remains though, why couldn't I edit the field from Library options?
-
Actually, this thread has probably been a total waste of time.
I just realised that lots of string fields show a drop-down box when you go to edit them, giving you the option to choose anything that's already in the column. When I thought my field was still a list style it was obviously just giving me that choice!
Please accept my profound aplogies ::)
