The question is almost embarrasing, but I have to ask it:
What does the action "Rebuild database from iPod" do? What database does it refer to? Does it mean updating MC's view of what's in the iPod?
I don't want to try whitout knowing, Iwant to be sure that I don't affect anytning not related to the iPod.

The question is almost embarrasing,
Not at all.
It refers to the database on the iPod. iPod has an internal database of it's files. What 'Rebuild database from iPod' does is to rebuild this database based on the files that are actually on the iPod in case the database has been corrupted or is inaccurate. Whenver this process occurs, you will lose any playlists that are on your iPod. They can be readded quickly by synching because the files will not need to be sent (as they are already on the iPod).
This process will not affect anything other than the iPod.

Thank you, Steve!
This sounds like the feature I need the next time I cannot sync my iPod since it appears to be full although I know there is space.
Maybe the name of menu item should be changed from
"Rebuild Database From iPod" to
"Rebuild Database On iPod"?
Not a top priority job in these days when the release is so very, very close, but I think it would be good for clarity.

Second that! I always wondered what that option was for. If the description were to be changed as you suggest it would really make things clearer. Now that has to be a simple one to change!

It could be useful to have the information you gave, Steve, in the help file. I didn't find anything about "Rebuild Database From iPod" there; that's why I posted my question here. Is it a policy desicion to limit this kind of information related to specific external devices in the help file, or is it just a matter of time and priority?

Done. Thanks.

The option you descibe is an 'iPod only' option. Our help files are not customized per device and that is why the option is not included.

Thank you for the change, Steve!
And I can see the point in not including all device specific information in the help file
