Sets the personal status message in MSN Messenger 7.x from JRiver Media Center 10

To install, download mc_wilt.mjp from JRiver's interface plugin page. If you prefer manual installation, run "regsvr32 mc_wilt.dll".

Make sure to check the Active box in the What I'm Listening To page in Media Center, and check the option in MSN Messenger: in the Tools menu, select Options | Personal and check "Show song information from Windows Media Player as a personal message".

This plug-in was tested with MSN Messenger 7.0.0813 and Media Center 10.0.173. It should work with Media Center 11.0 as well, which was not finalized at the time of writing.

Thanks for the plugin, Pookus.

I seem unable to delete anything in the text box?  Pressing DEL after moving the cursor has no effect and Backspace just takes me to the last item I was looking at in the left hand pane (Playing Now for example).  I can highlight words and type over them so can workaround it.

Is this something a bit broken in MC or something else?

Also, would you be able to implement something Hugo tried - allowing the user to filter the type of files that should be shown in MSN?  As an example, if I'm browsing through photos, I don't particularly want "imageblahblah.jpg" appearing in MSN :).

Thanks for your work.

I noticed that too, it's the strangest thing. My guess is that this is an oddity of MC, but I can't tell for sure (since this is my first plug-in). I'm using a standard edit box there, so I'm not sure what else I could do.

It's a similar problem for skinning. I am using standard controls, but MC is not skinning my page. I suspect both problems might have something to do with how MC handles threads.

Oh, great suggestion, let me see what I can do!

Much thanks

hey it would also be great if you could follow hugo's lead and put the display picture as the album art.  great work so far!

Thanks! :-)

As far as the display picture goes, I'm trying right now to stay away from using the Messenger type library. There are some instantiation issues to think about, so I'm keeping that for some later date. It's definitely noted, though -- thanks for the suggestion.

I uploaded this change a couple of days ago but version 1.1 is not showing up on the download page yet. As soon as JRiver post the new version, you will have separate settings available for audio vs video. I'll be travelling the coming weeks, but as soon as I see the new version online, I'll post an official announcement.

Thanks Pookus.  I've been checking on it since you posted but still only 1.02 as far as I can see...

Would it be possible to have a list of fields that are possible to enter?

I wanted to put the year/date(year) field in but it didn't work...

Cool plugin though, keep up the fine work!

thanks

Right now I don't have any of those. I will add them in the next release, as soon as I get my development computer back (hopefully 2 weeks from now).

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the kind words! Right now I only have the 3 visible ones. I hope to add more in a couple of weeks.

Great Plugin, although
sometimes it seems to get confused and say 'Watching'
when in fact I'm defintiely listening  :)

Any chance of a Yahoo Instant Messenger Playing Now Plugin too?  :)

This seems to work fine also with MC 11.1.03 ans MSN 7.5.

And HEY ! I noticed you can edit the Format field by selecting the text you want to delete and then right click on it and select delete ;-) Keyboard still does not work for this.

This is MC oddity at the moment, which I've tried many ways
to get round and only ended up doing lots of swearing!
It's kinda weird cuz for some textboxes, it just works,
like MS's RichTextBox or standard Textbox in .NET.
Yet in other things like this, it just doesn't work.
