Just built a new WinXP Pro box, installed MC11 (.286), and copied some test media from another XP box on the home network.
Well, the test video, an .mpg, would not display...I could only hear audio, but the MC logo stayed in the center of the black screen.
Tried it in WMP10, no go. Downloaded Media Player Classic and it played just fine. Tried it again in MC, no go.
GSpot says it was an unsupported codec.
Installed ffdshow, no go.
At this point very frustrated, wondering why this and my other .mpg's would play on my other XP machine in MC just fine, but not on this box.
Well, I realized the only video-related application not installed on this new box that was installed on the other box was PowerDVD 5. So I installed it.
Wallah! Mpg video now plays perfectly in MC11.
I'm curious why I would need to install this, though...I thought MC11 had all the codecs it needed.

I don't know, but I'm off to look for my copy of PowerDVD. I'll let you know if it helps here with similar problems. ;)
