Read up / test Remote Desktop! I use it all the time. Free (built in in Windows XP/2003 Server) and easy!

... built in in Windows XP/2003 Server...

I would like to add that XP Home doesn't have it. The hosting server is available only in XP Professional or 2003 Server.

MS has free remote client software for XP home and the other Windows versions: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx

RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com.) is an OS independent alternative.

For more information you could check this PCWorld article: http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,116030,pg,1,00.asp

I've been using realvnc for years and use it with MC.  I only have a wireless remote for MC and no keyboard, so I use VNC for everything.  It works great.
