Title: Help! Installed 286 -- can't play, crashing!
Post by: hakuin on June 10, 2005, 12:09:05 am
I just installed MC11.286 (MC was working fine 1 min before I installed 286).

When I try to play a track, I get an error "There was an error starting playback...make sure your system has a valid sound playback device....etc".  When I click OK, I get a Visual C++ runtime erorr..."abnormal program termination". When I click okay I get a media center.exe application error "The instruction at .... memory could not be read".

What can I do?  I have playback set to WaveOut (as it was before).

Try other sound settings.

Can you play sounds from Windows Control Panel / Sounds?

Also, try a reboot.

I did a reboot and tried running MC again....it seemed to load as a running process, but the application window itself never appeared.  I rebooted again and logged in under a different admin account and then it seemed to work fine. I haven't yet tried to run it again from the account where it was not working.
