With 289 and 290 I can no longer sync to my handheld. I tried with my normal handheld (a USB device) and a local folder. The problem is that when MC gets to the point that it should copy the file it fails. There error message gives no detail as to the reason.
I tried with having reencoding and without and the problem happens in both cases.

Here as well.
After converting format (if needed), I get a dialog box titled Handheld error.
The contents of the box is "Transfer errors. (1 files) Transfer failed"
Log shows this:
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::CloseIfDisconnected: Start
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::CloseIfDisconnected: Exiting CloseIfDisconnected.
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::CloseIfDisconnected: Finish (0 ms)
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CMCHandheldViewInfo::CMCHandheldViewInfo(): Start
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CMCHandheldViewInfo::CMCHandheldViewInfo(): Finish (0 ms)
11:14:29 PM: Handheld: CMCHandheldViewInfo::~CMCHandheldViewInfo(): Start

I'm still having problems in 292 (haven't had a chance to try 293 yet). About 1 in 8 or 9 files still don't get copied. This only happens for files that are being reencoded.
Also, when the problem happens a window pops up and I must click OK before continuing. This makes it pretty much useless for syncing over night, etc.

Try to locate a failing file and then try copying the one file and see if you can get it to fail. If it fails, give me the file type of the file and also post the path that MC reports for the file on the PC.
