Title: replay gain

might be a dumb question, but does replay gain and analizing your files degrade them in any way, does it decode and reincode to change the volume levels??? thanks

My opinion is that the gain adjustment process itself should be fine.  It's what happens when the data stream makes it to the DAC that could matter.

Replay Gain does nothing to the original files, all the data for replay gain is stored in the MC database only.

If you want to change the actual files you have to use something like "mp3Gain". Mp3Gain now stores an "undo" in the mp3 as well, so any changes to the file can be undone.

Be careful using the 'Undo' function in MP3Gain.
It writes an APE tag which many players do not like to see on an MP3 file.

Well, it is also stored in the tags if the "Update tags when file info changes" is activated.

I like the Replay Gain better in MP3Gain since it levels the songs in a way that it works in other players as well...I couldn't get MC's Replay Gain to work outside MC...not even with saving to tags enabled.
