Title: remote library server not working using nameservice
Post by: Tim Harvey on July 08, 2005, 10:35:55 pm
I am using MC 11.0.297 on two machines, one which I want to be the master library 'server', the other (I'll call it the client) I wish to use the library remotely from the 'server'.

on the 'server' I goto Plug-ins->Library Server and start the server, its running on port 80.  On the 'client' I go into the Library Manager and I add a library with the location of the server machines ip address it works.  However when I use the server marchine's DNS 'name' (which I can 'ping' via TCP/IP in a command prompt on the 'client') it does not connect to the server.

Is the protocol not able to use DNS name resolution?

Yes it can, but sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a file name and a host name.

Instead of foo.bar.com, use m01p://foo.bar.com/

Thanks,
