When updating my media the CPU goes to 100 % usage, slowing down the process of importing data dramatically (24-36 hours!). MC even stops after scanning the files and only imported 3 new ones (of several thousands ...). Can i fix this?

I Imported 100,000+ MP3 files the other day in less than 2 hours
you may wish to provide more info
and your system info (from help, system info)
-
Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.
Update if you're not on the latest version.
Try importing a single file type at a time to see if you can isolate where the problem is. Check the options you have set under the Import / Advanced.

I've imported 35.796 wma/mp3 files, no problem. The last couple of days I'd tried to update my library, with another 15.000 music files, about 8.000 video files and 15.000 approx. jpeg's from my digicam. Some files are new, many have been imported before (I changed some folders after rearranging the files). The program searches for these files in a very slow way (since CPU goes to 100 % and virtually blocks the working of my pc). When it found all files, it started to import, and stopped after 387. I retried, then it stopped after 1 file. I'm trying to import just one folder, this is ok. So why could I import 35.796 files in no problem (couple of hours indeed), but am I facing a failure when updating my library? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate these forum!

Please update to 309 and check what options you have set.

I'm updating right now!
Settings: I started with All types selected, Fix/Remove broken links (not the Incl. NTDrives), Create a library backup; these were the orig settings which did do the job first.
Now I unchecked everything, except for import from selected drive, but problem still exists.

importing the music (seperate folders one by one): no problem
importing the jpeg's and family mpeg's (seperate folders, but imported as one): no problem
i'll try to import the videofiles (digital PVR files in mpeg format) now, since this is the only thing left (122 Gb - about 700 files).

Importing wma, jpeg, mp3 without problem (so far). But it gets stuck when importing the movie-folder, especially the DVIX files. Can this be a problem?
