I have my desktop as my library server and laptop as the client. Both are connected to the network in my house. As soon as I play a song on my laptop (client) it registers a play count on my desktop (server). This happens even if I stop the song after 2 seconds. There is no play counted on my laptop after stopping the song that quickly, even though it shows as played on the desktop.
For my 'When Playing from Library Server' I have it set to do not convert currently, I tried different values in here and got the same result with the play count.

There's no reason for it to update it on the client machine since that's a temporary snapshot of the server's library.
This will be re-downloaded to the client each time you connect to the server.
Since the playcount updated on the server correctly, it will then show on the client next time you connect to the server.

The problem then is just that its not updating on the server correctly, unless it behaves differently than MC does in normal operation. Its counting as played as soon as it starts playing on the client, it should wait until it plays at least 50%.

jankm - the library server does update playcounts differently, with the drawback that they are being updated immediately, instead of halfway through.

Ok, then it makes sense the way it is working.
Is there a way to turn the count off? My ideal situation would be to use my library on my client the same as the desktop (with ratings and play counts updating the server). But if the play count updates immediately after the play has started then I'd rather it not update at all.

My solution was to map my media files to the same driveletter on both computers, use a copy of the same library and store playcounts etc. in tags.
Not the optimal solution, but it works.
