I am trying to transfer music from Media Center to my iPod. I have the iPod plug-in and I completely retored my iPod to its original settings so no music is on it. I drag files over into the handheld action window and hit tranfer. It seems to transfer the music but it wont play on my iPod. It is still blank but in MyComputer the files show up. What am I doing wrong?

Did you initialize your iPod to work with MC? (right click on the iPod in the navigation tree --> 'Initialize iPod'). Do that first and try transfering again.
If that doesn't work, get the last iPod updater (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/), use it to initialize your iPod, then initialize to work with MC and give the whole thing another try.
-
When I right click the only option I have is 'Add Folder.' What do I do now?

Did you do this?

I have done the restore thing on the iPod updater so that the iPod is completely clean and my music still won't tranfer properly. What now?
-
What version of Windows are you running? Are you logged in with Admin rights?
-
I am running Windows XP and I am the only user so I should have the administartive privileges.

In Windows Explorer, if you expand the iPod, do you see a folder called "iPod_Control"?
If so verify what are the subitems in MC when you expand the iPod in the tree.

Under iPod in Media Center I have Calendars, Contacts, Notes, and iPod Controls.
Under iPod Controls in Media Center I have Device, iTunes, and Music.
Under Music I have F00 all the way through F49 but all of those 50 folders and empty.
In my computer I do not have the folder iPod Controls. I only have Calendars, Contacts, Notes, and two files named MC: a text document and a DC file- I dont know what they are though.
-
Is it iPod Controls or iPod_Control?
-
iPod_Controls
-
Sorry there is stuff in the Device and iTunes folders just not more folders.
-
It should be iPod_Control not iPod_Controls. If it really is iPod_Controls, what version of iPod and what firmware are you running?
-
Once again- sorry its iPod_control -no "s"

I cannot explain this unless it is a permissions issue. Try resetting the devices (in Tools->Options->Handhelds) and then when MC detects the iPod say 'No' to do you want MC to recognize it. Then, in Tools->Options->Handhelds, use the 'Configure remote and fixed drives' option and browse to your iPod and name it and then you should be able to see it.

I did what you told me in your last post. Then I re-installed the iPod plugin but it wont recognize it. Everytime I click on my iPod or the Handheld icons an error says plugin not installed. I hit OK and after it comes up twice MC closes. I think I am going to start over by- uninstalling MC, restoring my iPod, and starting all over again with MC. What do you think?
-
MC11 comes with iPod support. You don't need to install a plug-in.
-
Jim is right on.
If you installed a plugin, reinstall MC and then try again.

I re-installed Media Center and it worked nicely! Thank you so much for all your assistance and advice!

Glad it worked out. I will remove those plugins from the download page so no one else can get confused either.
Thanks,
Steve
