We went down to Burwell, a town of 1200 people in central Nebraska, yesterday for a rodeo.  It was an amazing experience.  I think I'll try to hang on to the job I have.

The most spectacular event was called "Wild Horse Race".  They brought in three big horse trailers and about 8 teams of three people each tried to get one horse off the trailer, saddle him, and ride him around a 3/4 mile track.  That doesn't begin to describe how difficult and dangerous it was to do.  These horses did not want any part of it.  Unfortunately, all I have are short film clips of this event.

The other pictures are here:

In NJ off of RT 40 there is a place called "CowTown" I Go By It On The Way To My Mom's And Dad's House To Pay My Yearly Visit (Traffic Is Hell).

The Cowtown Rodeo is the longest running regular (May through September) Saturday night rodeo in the United States.

The Week Of Aug 14th I Will Be Driving By It Once Again

Can't think why  ::)
Has anyone ever thought that maybe they don't enjoy it, and therefore to do it in the interests of sport is rather cruel.

When I lived in Texas and Oklahoma, rodeo was a big date!

I actually found them kinda fun.

But you're right, I'll keep my boring day job!!!

Nice pics!  Makes me kinda nostalgic...grew up in Alberta, Canada.  Home of the Calgary Stampede.
Mom and Dad were involved with the Gymkana program...

I'm with you lambert282!!

Rodeo's are right up there with Circuses and just about all other human pursuits when it comes to givin the animals a not so fun time.

I reckon they should have a new rodeo, where chimpanzees get to ride around, whip, brand and kick humans. Now that would be fun!
