Hi,
I would like to upgrade from MC9 to MC11, but from what I read here (http://www.jrmediacenter.com/purchase.html) it seems only upgrades from MJ8 or MC10 is possible. Can that be right?

See the first post in this thread:

If you install 11 while you have 9 installed, and press upgrade you should get the indicated pricing.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. By the way, is the price $26 still correct?
-
According to J River it is: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=23311.0.
Don't forget to back up all your MC9 data in a folder outside of the J River directory.

That's what's posted.... I'm sure it will tell you a price when you buy... If not, Wait till someone from JRiver posts.

No, you're doing a good job!

Actually, in my experience you should uninstall MC9 before installing MC11. MC9 cannot co-exist with MC11 without problems. Make a library backup before uninstalling. Your registration info will not be wiped by uninstall and you will get the upgrade price.
I have written step by step instructions for safe upgrade here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=27914.msg194327#msg194327

Thanks. Can I safely follow Alex B's advice? What if something goes wrong, and I'm suddenly left with no registered version of MC9 on my computer? (Not a big problem I guess, since I could then reinstall MC9 and use a restore?)

Yes, you can reinstall MC9 and use a restore, but that is not needed if you use MC9 uninstaller and don't alter your OS otherwise. My three PCs have all previous registrations (MJ8-MC11) available. I can install an old version anytime and it will be registered without a restore.
It is sure that certain MC specific Windows registry settings will be incorrect if MC11 and MC9 are used on the same PC. I have experienced that too.
Please, read the whole thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=27914. You'll understand better why I wrote those instructions. You have only my word, but I have personally tested everything I wrote in that thread.

Great! Oh, one final question. I would also like to have MC11 installed on a new pc, one which has not had MC installed previously. Will that be possible?
EDIT: Never mind, I figure I can install MC9 first (using a restore) on my new pc, then upgrade. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You don't need to install MC9. You can use the same install key file.
From http://www.jrmediacenter.com/buy_faq11.html
On purchase, you receive a permanent Registration Code. This is a proof of purchase that can be used at any time to acquire a new Install Key. The install key must be used within 14 days of its generation, but as long as you have the permanent registration code, you can get a new key by visiting the restore page (more below).
and
Q: Can I install on more than one PC?
A: During the two-week period after you have purchased or restored, you can use the Install Key you received to activate the program on your other PC’s. You may use the program on your work PC and on your home PC's with a single license.

Excellent, thank you once again. :)
