Is is possible to use the Library Server Plugin to stream videos to another machine?
I had thought I had heard of others doing this, but when I tried it, but nothing would come up, and the host machine showed no network activity to indicate that somthing was being served. It did understand the request, though:
08/15/05 16:36:29 - Received request for a file: C:\Documents and Settings\Lachlan\My Documents\My Videos\Cadie Juggling 1.wmv
08/15/05 16:36:29 - Received request for cover art: C:/Documents and Settings/Lachlan/My Documents/My Videos/Cadie Juggling 1.wmv
08/15/05 16:36:29 - Unable to serve cover art, file not found
Am I doing somthing wrong, or something impossible?
Thanks,
Lachlan
(Who has been enjoying MC 11 as his primary music player).

Lachlan,
John Gateley was checking this today. He'll post tomorrow.

Ok, sounds good!
In case I didn't give enough information, here's some more. . . I know I was rather brief in my first post. I'll try to guess the questions you might ask me.
The movies I tried were in WMV format. I already can use the library server for music, so I don't think it's a matter of me totally not knowing how to use library server. One of the movies I tried was about 124 MB, the other was about 8.5 MB, so I think I tested a decent range.
I'm using MC 11.0.309. (Both the server and the client have the same version.)
If it will help, I might be able to try serving them to a different machine tomorrow, just to make sure it wasn't the fault of the client machine.
I'm not sure what the spec's of the Client machine are, but here's the server's:

Some formats require downloading the whole video first :(
But, WMV should work and it's not. I'm looking at it...

Ok! I'm glad it's being handled. I eagerly await your solution!

Hmmm. I was just looking at the release notes for MC 11.0.312 and I noticed that it said it fixed a problem with library server and non-mpg movies. It sounds like I need to upgrade. Do you know if I need to upgrade on both machines, or just the server?
Thanks,
Lachlan

The version should always be the same on both PC's.
-
Took me a while to get around to upgrading, but it does indeed work now! I greatly appreatiate your help.
Is there any known way to get MC to accept *.MOV files? Like a plugin, or somthing?
If not, I would appreatiate this in future versions, although I realize there may be legal issues that might make it impossible.
-
MC11 can play mov files by using the QuickTime playback engine.
-
Ok, I feel a little silly having to ask. . . but what exactly is the Quicktime playback engine and how do I find it?
I looked through the plugins page, and didn't see it there. I did a search for it on these forums and didn't find it. I did a very brief Google search and didn't see anything that looked promising. I feel like I must be missing the obvious place to look. :-[
I have Quicktime 7 if that makes any difference.
-
Installing Quicktime should allow MC to play MOV files. Update if needed. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the latest version of QT.
Try playing the MOV file in QT.
You can't use this to stream to another PC though.

Quicktime 7 is the latest. The movies will play fine in quicktime. I'll just have to convert them before streaming. A little inconvientent, but no big deal.
Thank you for your help!
