Trying to fill up my 40gb iPod by synching a smartlist ala Larrys iPod notes.
Started with a 37,1 gb list with around 7000 files, but at around 90% i got a Out of Memory error.
Suddenly the list was 1,2 gb too big.
I then reduced to 35gb , but at around 90% i got a Out of Memory error again.
Now the list was 640 mb too big...
Managed to fit a list of around 34,2 gb.
MC should know that the files use more actual discspace than their filesize in the smartlist, and at least warn the user in cases like this.
The best would of course be if MC could calculate how much space files used on the iPod.

Are you converting the files in this process?

No.

I ran into this too. The space that the files will take up on the ipod (and the PC as well) depends on the size of the filesystems allocation unit, usually on a boundary of 2k, 4k, etc. So let's say the allocation unit is 4k and the file size is 1.5k. The ACTUAL size it will use up on the ipod is 4k even though windows says the file size is 1.5k. I believe the filesystem on the PC compat ipods is fat32 which indicates a 4k allocation unit. In the calculation of actual space on the ipod used by the transfer of the files, each file size should be rounded up to 4k boundaries before adding them together to get the total size to transfer.

Thanks Bob. We will modify this soon.
PS sorry about the nats. Go Phils.
