Title: MC 10/11 and Real Media
Post by: rjanice on August 23, 2005, 10:24:27 am
I'm about to purchase MC 11 for my home machine, but may use MC 10 on my laptop instead for streaming reasons.  Will the MC 11 key be valid for an MC 10 install?

Regards....

No.  An MC11 key won't work with MC10.

I suppose you don't have an old MC10 license. You could buy MC10 and an upgrade to MC11. It costs only $4 more.

BTW, what you mean by "streaming reasons"?

MC 10 is robust in playing Real files, even audio streams, but MC 11 works hardly at all, even on stored files.  I've used both the new Real Player and the Real Alternative but the same issues occurred.

I bought MC 11 yesterday for the better image editor and now am sorry that I did - should have purchased 10 and saved myself both money and headaches.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

My favorite talk show only streams Real, unfortunately, and I only just noticed this reply to my post after I went ahead and purchased 11 yesterday - is there any way I could revise the transaction to reflect what you suggested?

Thanks.

Real files and streams just aren't working properly with MC11 but do with 10, and I just bought 11 assuming the functionality for Real would be the same.

Try uninstalling MC10.

You may have to reboot and reinstall MC11.

Thanks guys - sorry to be a pain - I'll gather up some links.  From what I've been able to tell (and I truly apologize for my premature critique ::)), the problem is not necessarily with file compatibility, but with how I have some of the start options set, eg. start in Playing Now, start with Auto Play Playlist, Remember Media Mode - some combination of these which I'm experimenting with and will report back, though I can tell you that start in Start as opposed to Playing Now makes a big difference with Real files in my situation.

Thanks again,

Rick

The problem seems most definitely to involve starting these ram's either internally or externally with the Now Playing display active, whether or not Now Playing is cleared on exit.

Please see:  http://206.130.103.233/ShowFM041.ram

Also note that Now Playing option OK (obviously) in mini mode, but will reset on entering standard view.

Thanks

Speaking of forces at work, I just KNEW I was going to get grief for the listening content (my wife agrees with you) but, after all, ETs need love too :P

As for 'resetting', the feed often restarts or simply aborts when switching view modes, but upon further investigation only seems to happen when I switch before the temp file had finished downloading (less than 10 sec or so).  Patience does not appear to be one of my virtue.

Real Player is thankfully dead and buried as far as I'm concerned- using Alternative latest build - never did have both installed simultaneously.

Gotta catch my 6AM "Beam"

Regards,

Rick
