When trying to rip CD's if MC fails to connect to the YADB datatbse for some reason then MC's default behaviour seems to be to go ahead and rip the cd using the "DUMB" Trackn, Unknown Artist, Unknown Album defaults - can't this be modified to either - Allow a retry on the YADB database connection or allow the user to type in the info before it Rips the CD.
NB I Have also noticed that although the YADB Database holds Album Artist, Genre and Date info MC11 has a bad habit of not always picking these up when ripping CD's.

I've been having a similar experience ALL night (about 20 CDs). I get that stupid message almost every time. Even when there it connects and lets me select from duplicate album entries it then gives me that darn message. My only advantage is it stops before ripping and generously lets me enter all the information myself.
Can't you put an option/action in there to allow for retyring the YADB server after this Failed action message?
I'm sure something like that would save many people hours of work.

Try right clicking on the CD under devices and tell MC to lookup from CD database.

Thanks for the great tip. I didn't get a chance to use it yesterday FRI (workday) since every one of my many rips came up in YADB ok. I was trying between 6pm-9pm EST. Today SAT (weekend) 10pm EST I put my first CD in and YADB failed. I tried the tip 10 times in a row, each time it tried to go to YADB, but it failed each time. Perhaps it depends on time-day-traffic?

It's been failing for the last 30 minutes 17:00 (GMT-8)

It looks like we're having a server problem. I think servers can sense holiday weekends.
Stay tuned.

Single point of failure? There SHOULD be an option in MC to elect which lookup service to use. I am sure most users have backup for their audio files? Have alternative e-mail addresses? Have spare credit cards?... So MC should hook into different lookup databases.

This was fixed a few hours ago and should now be working.

What is the relationship between JRiver and Interact YADB?
Having just selected 1,000 albums and left my machine for a couple of hours to update YADB, I am now curious....

It would be great to be able to use others like CDDB. It must be a license/cost issue, correct?

Yes, and other reasons
you can search the last 5 years for CDDB and get more info.
this is a dead issue

There is a little info on it here: http://www.yadb.com/
Thanks for updating our track database. Anyone else who has well tagged tracks, please consider adding them.
Select files, right click, and choose Library Tools/Submit Track Info to YADB.
To make this work, MC examines the first part of each track. JRiver's audio fingerprint generates a unique code for each track. This code and the tag info are uploaded to the database. Anyone else who has poorly tagged tracks can use a similar process to access the good tag info.
The CD database is entirely separate, so uploading track info will have no affect when a disc is ripped. That process uses the Table of Contents (TOC) of the disc itself. This is data generated by looking at the number of tracks and times of each. There is normally no list of tracks available on an audio CD.

Thanks for info JimH. The YADB database fails me 99% of the time. It's just another reason I don't rip with Media Center.
I currently have 56,060 songs rip'd from my CD's or record's in my database and 10 were tagged with Media Center.
Now Media Center’s database handling is the best! I could not have a music database without Media Center.
Something like Musicmatch Jukebox can not handle databases of any size. At 5,000 songs it took 4 minutes to update a single change. At 10,000 I'm simply not that young to wait.
But Musicmatch rip's and tag's with the best.
Nero has been a real help in song maintenance, neither Media Center nor Musicmatch Jukebox can help with these issues.

That's extremely unlikely. Your machine may have other problems.
-
The YADB fails me about 50% at least when ripping CDs. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, after several failures on the same CD it will succeed on the last try.
-
Nero has been a real help in song maintenance,
What do you mean by "maintenance" ?
-
He probably means .wav editing?
I am getting a failure today, but I have never really had a problem with the database other than not finding the cd info...I just use EAC for stuff that's not in YADB.
