I bought my girlfriend a Shuffle, and she tells me it takes upwards of 3 minutes to change tracks at times. She tells me if it is going to an english song, is seems fine, but when it goes to a spanish track (genre: Español), it takes a LONG time.
Any ideas? Is it maybe the ñ in the Genre? I guess i could try to change it, but thought I'd ask first.
Anyone else notice this kind of slow behavior?
-
For me it's only slow when I turn it on. Not when it is turned on. At least I think so. I'll report back if mine is in fact slow, but I doubt it...
I use iPod shuffle db builder, which is a python script. I know that letters which isn't in Latin1, i think, aren't supported. Does the shuffle even read genre-tag, I wonder?

I use the python db builder also (on your suggestion I think).
I'm pretty sure it was the same with iTunes too.
Thanks for the update. I'll keep checking back for more input from others.

Hey Justin,
I just did a very scientific test ;D
- Start up is long, and I have to push play twice(?). This is the single most annoying factor to me.
-When I change a track manually it takes about two to three seconds or less. Some tags contain umlaut (ä, ö etc. used a lot in Sweden (and Germany, obviously). I like Swedish music). Some contain other 'special' letters such as æ, ø and å. All are, however, part of Latin1, I think.
-When it switches between tracks itself it's less than five seconds. Probably more like two to three seconds. One also have to keep in mind that some tracks contain silence in the beginning and the end.
-Sometimes when I skip through a lot of tracks it takes a little longer.
- Three minutes isn't acceptable or normal. Something is wrong. Either with the tracks or the software or the player itself. I doubt it's the software and I also doubt it's the player... I'm no expert though.
I hope you get your girlfriend's Shuffle working. It's a nicer player.
