Title: MC11.0 crash when recording
Post by: Pogle on September 13, 2005, 04:36:06 pm
Whenever I use the recorder MC11 (314) crashes. If it's on 'waiting for sound' it crashes when the sound starts. Otherwise it crashes when stopping the recorder.

I'm using a Creamware Scope soundcard which is a bit unusual but it still works fine with MC10 which is installed in parallel. In the Recorder options dialog 'Recording device' is greyed out and 'Recording device' is Mixer. This worked before.

Any ideas what's happening here?

AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.0.314.0    ModName: recorder.dll

Just installed 316 and still have the same problem.

This made me think maybe the crash has something to do with the encoding.

So I did some tests and sure enough:

Recording as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis: 'rip and encode simultaneously' checked - no crash
Recording as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis: 'rip and encode simultaneously' unchecked - yes crash
Recording as Uncompressed Wave: r.a.e.s. on or off - no crash

(although occasionally got an error 'could not move file c:\temp file location\xxxx.wav to e:\output file location\xxxx', but maybe that's another story)

No.  Someone cares.  A link to this thread was added to the bug thread a few days ago.

We don't always respond to possible problems, but thanks for documenting what worked and didn't.  If there is a bug, it should make it easy to find.
