Title: LP Database
Post by: Winstone on October 01, 2002, 06:20:38 pm
Bonjour,

Is there a way to create a LP database and find titles by cddb like I do with a mp3 file. If not, it's maybe an idea to add this feature in the version 9  ::)

Regards,

I am not an expert but my understanding is all CD Albums have a unique serial number so when you put your CD in the serial number is read and a lookup is done. I understand if an Album is re printed the serial may change so the database needs the entry twice or more. I also have heard that occationaly the serial number can be used for two albums but I have never seen this. So if you record a CDR of a LP then your CDR writer will generate a serial number that will be unknown to the database and will be dependant on you computer setup. As this will always be an unknow serial number and random it is useless for your purpose. This means you have to add your own details. Also don’t submit your album details to the database as it will help no one and only serve to clutter the database with your custom CDR. It would make sense that CDR’s would have serial number ranges that would be rejected by the database but that would be optimistic. I could see an advantage of a manual search of the database for LP. I have about 60 LP’s to burn and friends lining up so it would be good to have that function but to be truly usefull there would need to be some process to burn the CDR with a common serial number that matches the database. I don’t think anyone would invest the time and energy in this process, it is hard enough getting accurate matches with the CD database.

No, Not Really

It Is Based On # Of Tracks And Track Size\Mins And That Will basicly Generate A TOS And The TOS will be like a CD ID

One way of doing this might be to be able to tell MJ that certain tracks are a particular LP. When I record LPs I end up with one file per track as track1.mp3, track2.mp3, etc. Currently I have to rename and tag these files manually, but if I could select them in MJ, search YADB and have it tag these tracks to a particular album it would save some work. Then I could use MJ to rename the files based on the tags.

well the time on recored LP's may or may not be the same as the mins and seconds on a cd, and if 1 second is off on one track then that would change the whole lookup.

Just because you have a Album, or CD of Lets Say Eagles Hotel California Does Not Mean All Are The Same. There are companies that may change the order or trim the songs on a cd and this would effect the lookup for cd's

A CD From U.S.A. May Or Maynot have the same TOS As The Same CD Burned In Canada Or Iraq etc....

Is there a way to let a DB know what the album/artist is and name the tracks based on a lookup? Seems like this is pretty similar to the way the album cover lookup works.

I could see selecting a group of tracks that are ordered properly and then selecting a "get track names from Internet" feature which would fill in track names based on Artist/Album provided. Maybe present you with a list so you can decide to use or not (could use this feature with current get album cover from Internet).

Yeah thats pretty much what I meant. Not the database picking the tracks based on time (because as KingSparta said  in a recorded LP they could be different), but to be able to search the database manually and tell MJ that the selected tracks were the album you had selected in YADB.

If you are recording the LP with MJ,  the MJRecorder already has a look up feature.... I'm not sure where it looks it up though....  I asked about adding the look up to the CD Ripping funtion to use with CDs I've made from LPs in this post.....

Before We Get To All Of This I Will Be Beating Up Gateley And JimH To Do This, But We Need To Give Them Time.

There Are Many Projects They Are Working On Right Now.

You See I Have Plans When This Option Becomes Aval If They Provide A Programing Hook To It.

Thank's all of you for your comments,

but what i'm looking for is not a way to rip all my 800 LP on my HDD, but a way to find all information like Artist, Album and Titles of the songs and save all that in a librairy.

Like we can do in record sound. You type ex. Genesis, Foxtrot -> Track -> Seach internet and then, save this in my LP Librairy.
