Title: Failing to register MC11
Post by: skylarplane on September 30, 2005, 10:23:11 am
I just moved my files to a new computer and MC11 won't come up, saying it is failing to register.  How do I re-register
my software.

Reinstall MC11

You Can Not Simply Copy The "J River" Folder And Expect It To Work

Most Programs Need To Write Items To the Registry For Them To Work Or Work Correctly

If it's a new machine, you've got 30 days before you have to register.

When I try to run it this is my message I'm getting:

This version of Media Center must be activated by running it once with at least Power User privilegges.

After this activation.  Media Center can be run with only guest priviledges

(Unactivated componenant: mcmimeman.exe)

I've again reloaded down the software but it says registration failed when it tried to bring up the software.

Is it connected to the Internet?

Did you try restoring your license?

www.jrmediacenter.com/purchase.html

If so, there may be other problems.  Find the FAQ here and then look for the thread near the bottom, called "Weird and Wonderful...".

Spam filters, popup blockers, virus checkers, etc., can cause odd problems.

What is your OS? Are you logged in as a Power User or Administrator?

I've gotten the same message this week, while logged in with Admin priviledges under win2k.

I've never had this problem, when I got my new laptop, it load down just fine and I registered my valid code, and all things were fine but now I cannot get it to valid my files on my new PC.

Skylar,
More details please.  When you say "it" what exactly do you mean?  When you say license will not execute, exactly what happens and at what step.

I asked a couple other questions above.

Also, if I have to totally reinstall MC11, which files that have all my stats should I keep, like those that connect my album covers to my songs.

You have to put the image on your own web server, then link to it here.

Removed any Spybot and Pop up.  Admin guy checked and I have admin authority.  I re download the software but still says that  PowerUser is required to first log on then 'guest only' will be able to log in.

I have never had a problem bringing this up.  Again, if I had to totally delete MC11, which individual file can I keep that has all my album connection on it.  I have over 1500 songs
and I don't want to have to reconnect them all over again.

FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK:

It required that I had our Client Server Admin log on with
his ID with highest priviledge and reload 316 and bring up the software, then he logged off and I was only then able to bring up MC11/316.

I'm glad you found a solution. Strange that your admin account wasn't enough.

I was just about to send this answer. Perhaps it can help someone else:

If you still have your old PC and MC installation available make a library backup with it: File > Library > Backup Library.

Copy the resulting zip file to your new computer and make a library restore after the problem has been solved: File > Library > Restore Library. You must have the music files in the same folder structure (incl. the drive letter) as before.

You can also find the folder that contains the library files. They are named as *.jmd. My main library contains 76 separate .jmd files in one folder and a subfolder path named \Cache\File Sort List\. By default the library files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11. Copy the folder and possible subfolders to your new PC.

If you have external cover art files in the default cover art folder find and backup them also.

This post has links to some instructions for making a clean reinstall:
