Title: UPnP Server port for Roku Soundbridge
Post by: dasymington on October 05, 2005, 04:54:12 pm
Is there any way to get MC11 to choose the same port for the UPnP server each time it starts? I think it's because it uses a different port each time that I need to restart my Roku each day to connect to the server.

I'm doing some internal changes to the UPnP server now, I'll try to get the port option in while I'm at it...

Just wondering, are any of my wish list items also on your list?

TIA

Quote
1)  Alphanumeric search capability  (this one will really help with the Streamium, due to it's navigation bugs)
2)  Enable / disable shuffle mode from the media player
3)  DSP functionality for UPnP streams  (replay gain is clearly the most important function here)
4)  Internet radio support (still doesn't work with the Streamium)
5)  Display artist and name on media player for internet radio streams
6)  Better control of randomization in smartlists (Currently the playlsit is randomized at each track change.  This is acceptable but it would be nice to select between one randomization at the start of the playlist and the current implementation)
7)  Cover art support

Most on my list...

2 - I don't know if this is doable, I don't think the UPnP protocol handles it.

6 - should work fine, I'm surprised it isn't. The smartlist should randomize ONLY when a different part of the library is browsed. I'll look at this.

John,

Thanks for the quick reply....

Just to clarify the randomization thing, it does work, but seems to randomize on every access to the playlist.  For example, if a randomized playlist is being streamed my Streamium displays the next song in the list.  This song does not play, but another random one does.

It's not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to understand what's really going on and perhaps be able to choose between the current implementation and a "single" randomization.

John,

I should have mentioned this in my last post, but this is definitely possible, at least with the Streamium, since it works when using Philips' server software.  It could well be that this particular implementation is unique to Streamiums.  The player must be sending some command(s) to the server when it receives the shuffle IR code from the remote and the server responds by toggling its shuffle mode.

John,

Philips just released a Streamium firmware update that seems to work right.  The randomization occurs as you navigate from the root into the playlist folder.  Once in the playlist folder the order of random playlists remains fixed.  The track listed as next actually plays next.

Once again the problem is in Philips' firmware!

Sorry to have wasted you time on this one...

This is now in the latest build of 11.1, let me know how it works.

Thanks. I'll try it and let you know.

Can you let me know where to get 11.1 - I can't find it?

In the Media Center section of Interact, look for a thread titled Media Center 11.1.x

John,

When I try to play from the Roku using MC 11.1.38 it says"

"Failed to load browse data. Invalid result received."

It appears to connect to the media server OK; I get that message when I choose Browse. Here's the log:

10/25/05 22:30:17 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.34 starting...
10/25/05 22:30:18 - Running

10/25/05 22:30:56 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 0()
10/25/05 22:31:22 - Received request for device description
10/25/05 22:31:32 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 0()

Check your settings. Make sure you have Roku Soundbridge selected as the player.

Yes, that's the setting I've got.
