Title: How Do I Eliminate Ringing From MP3
Post by: Dieter on September 30, 2002, 03:21:39 pm
I am using the LAME.EXE encoder with MJ to encode speech files to the following:

Format: MPEG-2.5 Layer 3
     32 Kbit CBR
     11.0 Khz Joint stereo

     ID3v1 Tag: Yes
     ID3v2 Tag: Yes

     Copyrighted: No
     Original: Yes
     Protected by CRC: No

The source of the files comes from recorded cassettes.

When I play back the files, I notice a slight ringing sound.  Is there a way to eliminate the ringing sound in LAME.EXE by setting some sort of parameter on the encoder.  Currently, I am using the following:

-b 24 --resample 11.025 %IN %OUT

Thanks in advance!

You might want to try a lowpass argument such as "--lowpass 16.5".   Experiment a little with the value.

The http://www.r3mix.net site (among others)has some good info.

At such a low bitrate, you are likely to get those kinds of artifacts. Try upping the bitrate to 64k or higher.
