I sense a theme here today....
When I launch J River on my client it tries to connect to the server automatically but I get the msg "The server is in the wrong state." Then I have to go into the "File" menu and manually select "Search for library server". Then it works.

I have a similar problem 75% of the time. But the error message is "Failed to find local Media Server.". I use Media Center V11.1.111.
In your next build, is it possible to have an auto retry (in your application) or a bigger timeout to avoid the "Failed to find local Media Server." error?
Or is it possible to have a retry button in the error message window? Now, I need to answer "No" to the next error message window (Would you like to select a backup library to restore instead?) and to go in the "File" menu and select "Search for Media Server". It's not fast and easy with my wireless remote control.
Thanks.

Any ideas what is causing this? I can't find anything related to that error message. Firewall? Anti-virus software?

I have modify my first reply to add some details (at the same time you reply to me).
The error message I receive when Media Center is opening is "Failed to find local Media Server." The delay before the message is only 1 or 2 seconds.
Maybe Media Center don't wait enough time to find the Server.

Does it always work on the retry? Or does that fail sometimes too?

It always works on the retry.
I have the same problem with my 2 laptop computers. They are using a wireless network, Laptop1 at 56Mb/s and Laptop2 at 108Mb/s. My Library Server is on a very fast desktop workstation.
I did't try it with a wire network and I am not at home now.

Are you restarting the server in between too?
Any firewall?
I'm pretty sure it's not a timing issue, but this is easy to test:
on the client: disconnect and then immediately reconnect. Does it fail?
After it fails, leave it for an hour, and then try the "search for media
servers", does it fail?
