Title: "Invalid address for write"

While trying to create several MP3 discs, MC10.0.173 keeps stopping, ejecting the disc, and the burn progress screen says "Invalid address for write."

The disc is then trash; it can't be read by anything.

What is going on here?

the test burns seem to work fine.
and the "invalid address for write" doesn't occur every time.

I'm having the exact problem.  Test mode works fine.  I've got a playlist of ogg vorbis  tunes that I'm trying to convert to mp3s when I'm burning to disc. I was able to burn  a small section of the playlist to CD, but when I try burning the entire playlist(about 1 gig) to DVD the disc pops out and I get "Invalid address for write." Ny help would be appreciated.

Oh Yeah and I'm using MC 11.0.314

I was using CompUSA generic discs.

When I switched to a Memorex brand package  of CDs, the problem didn't occur.
It appears that the CompUSA discs just had a lot of bad discs, and that the bad discs were causing the problem.

Is this a solution ?

I am having this problem using Sony branded discs that have so far worked with data normal data every time.  This time I am wanting an ordinary audio CD for the car.

Nine drink mats later ... it seems to be happening at the same point each time, 6% into the burn, even if I swap the tracks about.

Have you checked using other software recently? (Windows Built in Burning/Nero etc)
Tried different disks?

Please post your system info (from MC's Help menu). Sounds like buffer overrun. If you have an old burner without burn-proof you could drop the burning speed (try 4X).

I have now burned successfully  ;D

but not with MC  :'(

The original files were stored as APE.
I converted these to MP3 (no errors reported) and then used Roxio Classic to make an Audio CD ... which it did first time with no errors.

BTW. I was just looking at the system info post ...

It seems to be reporting that I have two CD drives, X and Y, both NEC units.

I actually have only one physical unit, the Y drive (which is identified by MC as the burner).

I do have two logical drives (using Alchohol 120), these are W: and X: (although W: is currently empty).
The reported hardware properties of these drives are that they are both LU8555M OEX199A SCSI CdRom devices.

Is it a coincidence that MC seems to be reporting the X: drive incorrectly? and missing the W: drive completely?

I have just mounted an image into W: and that seems to be working fine, except having restarted MC the system info does not seem to have changed at least with respect to W:. (Neither image contains any media files in the root).

Sounds like there could be a connection between the burn error and mis-reading the Alcohol drives. Any chance you could test this by disabling Alcohol temporarily and trying a burn (and pasting the system info)?

Alcohol is now diabled with no vitual drives.

No mention any drives but the actual physical drive.

Unfortuantely my drink mat collection is now +1  :(

Incidently, any idea why my clock speed is being reported as slightly different? (I'm ignoring the fact that my 3gb of RAM sgows up as 2gb. Many apps do this as well).

Hmmm...
To avoid creating coasters, enable "test mode".
Turn on the burn logging function by going into "Help/Configure debug logging", check the CD event and make sure "Output to a log file" is checked.
Try disabling the "direct decoding" and "write cd-text" options and do a test-mode burn with the burn speed set to 8X.
When a burn error occurs, go back to "configure debug logging" and click "view current log file". Save a file, zip it and send to:
