I load MC, click on Handheld, and it errors out with this notice:
Runtime Error!
Program F:\Program Files\Media Center.exe
abnormal program termination
After error windows opens, I click OPK and MC closes.
I reinstalled the newest d/l version (11.0.316). Using XP 2, iPod 5G 60
I am a registered owner.
Any help appreciated!

In Windows Explorer, rename the itunesdb file. It's probably corrupt.
Check the other threads here for how to use MC with the iPod.
10.0 support is limited. 11.0 support is much better.
Don't use iTunes and MC with the same iPod.

Hi Jim:
Thanks for the INCREDIBLY fast response!
I did a search on my computer for "itunesdb" and no hits- where is that?
Also, what is your Avatar?
TIA

close MC, plug your iPod in, a few seconds later it should appear as a disk drive on your computer. On that drive, iTunesDB is in the folder \iPod_Control\iTunes\
-
Whoooo hooo! There she is! Thanks!!!!!
-
Well, after I do that, I right click and rebuild dsatabase- and that is erroring out!

Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Did you try these instructions?

Yes sir. I do not run itunes and MC concurrently.
I think I may wholey unistall MC, and reinstall- see what happens.
-
Could you try deleting your iTunesDB. Then MC should recognize your iPod. Then, right click and select 'Initialize'. This will wipe everything off of your iPod. Then you should be able to go forward.

Not my favorite option- I got 40 gigs of music to reload.
I am having weird problems with Video (not) playing on the Pod, too. I may just restore the whole thing, if it gets to that. Or, I just may return the iPod... :(
-
Dave,
Try not running iTunes at all. Then do a rebuild of the database and see if you can get that to work successfully. After that, go forward with MC only and stay away from iTunes and post the results.
Thanks,
Steve
PS In regards to Video, are you trying to transfer video via MC? This is not supported currently. Do you have the iPod Nano, Photo or Video?
-
Hi Steve:
Thanks for that. I do NOT really like the iTunes much, and switching to the MC w/o using iTunes would be fine- I can do that. The DataBase in iPod (it is a 5G, 60 Gig Video) works fine in iTunes now, as well as Purple Ghost, Anapod. I got the Video to work now, too- had to uninstall iTunes, then I RegEdited the registry to remove all "itunes", "ipod" and "Apple" references, and reinstalled- then the Video took.
So, it still gets back to making MC work. It HAS worked, it was MC that I used to transfer everything onto iPod. It is VERY possible I screwed this all up by running Anapod at the same time- the anapod pops up automatically. I am usually good at stutting it down so I only use one thing attaching to iPod at a time, but I could have screwed that up...
When I try and get MC to rebuild the DataBase, it looks as if MC hangs- the progress bar does NOT progress, and Windows reports that MC is "Not Responding." There is a LOT of music on there- 4500 songs, I think- so I know this operation will take a while (hours) so I have let it run, but not seen any response, so I have ended it. Maybe I should let it go longer?
Is there any other program I can use to rebuild the database? It does seem to work, like I said, other programs seem to think it is OK...

Dave,
The next build will have modifications that will make MC play even nicer with iTunes. It is possible it will help you. If not, one option is to 'Initialize' and start over. I think then you would be fine, but I understand your hesitance to do that.
I do not think waiting on the rebuild longer than you have will be a way out.

Thanks again to everyone for your help. I think I have this pegged- I think I know what the problem is. However, I am not an engineer or anything, so I may be way off base, but I will post my findings.
First off, the re-initialization/Restore to Factory Defaults worked. At least, for a time. After playing arounf\d a bit more, I made an interesting discoovery- as long as I did NOT add any videos, things worked fine. But once I added a video- ANY video I have- MC errors out. I remove the videos, BAM- MC is back working fine.
I removed itunesdb again, and was able to rebuild with MC, and NO videos show in the rebuild... and it works. I add back in the videos, and MC errors out again.
So, my admitidly unprofessional opinion is that the videos are what is screwing this all up. For the time being, I can live with this- videos are just a fun novelty at the moment, and I DID buy the iPod for the music.
But maybe by mentioning this, you can look into this, and verify if this really is the problem. Possibly fixed in a future release will be fine.
Thanks for listening!

Dave,
Which iPod do you have?
We do not currently have video support enabled. It will come.
Steve

5G 60 Gig.
The videos I uploaded (with iTunes) were mp4's, not h256, btw.
If this does turn out to be the case, like I said, not a problem. Just want people to know that until MC does work with video, you should not upload ANY videos (if you want to use MC).

Just discovered, at least on my 5g pod, if you enablepodcasts, MC will not be able to coonetr to your device.
So, as long as you do not use any videos, or podcasts, MC is OK. But pop those on, and MC fails to connect.

I just tried to re-sync and am having hte same issue. How do you turn off podcasts? I have a 4g ipod so no video to worry about.

Switched to 11.1.51 and MC starts up with the ipod syncing fine.
-
In regards to Podcasts, can you elaborate on the problem? For testing I have downloaded Podcasts and can transfer them without issue. Do you have Podcasts set to sync in a smartlist? If so, what is the rule you are using?
-
I don't think it was specific issue in my situation, I jsut wanted to see if there was maybe a way to disable it from showing up in the tree view like the other serivces and plugins.
-
There is not a way to disable this at this time.
