From MC11.1.51:
NEW: Introduced new search syntax for searching for date elapsed, using the prefixes s,m,h,d,y in front of a number. (examples: "[Date Imported]=d1-d20" (imported 1 to 20 days ago) or "[Date]=>y5" (newer than 5 years ago))
-
Just a little explanation:
Prefixes:
s (seconds ago)
m (minutes ago)
h (hourse ago)
d (days ago)
y (years ago)
When you do a search, read "y4" as "4 years ago". Then the compares will make sense.
For example:
[Date]=>y10 is dates after 10 years ago (stuff that isn't too old)
[Last Played]=<d7 is songs played before 7 days ago (not listened to for a while)
[Date Imported]=y1-y5 is songs imported 1 to 5 years ago
Hopefully it makes some sense. Remember that there are also presets in "Add Smartlist" you can choose from.
-
Even with 11.1.51 tracks are not removed from my iPod smartlist when I do a sync even though the last played dates and times are correct. It removes them from my Last Played smartlist in the MC view but when I sync it does not update the iPod smartlist (meaning it does not remove the tracks I just played).
I used this smartlist: [Last Played]=>d30
Any ideas why?
-
I'll get used to it, but I read this: [Last Played]=<d7
as last played is less than seven days ago, so expect tracks played within the last seven days to be listed.
-
So what would the formula be to only include only tracks i have not heard for 30 days?
-
[last played]=<d30 ... *i think*... will exclude all tracks played inside the last 30 days.
edit: tested this just now and it appears to be correct. I've not been playing around with these too long, but I must say, these new rules appear to be very cool indeed.
-
Yeah, that is what I had. It just does not remove the tracks from my iPod smartlist after i sync, it does remove them from my smartlist in the MC view after i sync....odd
-
that's really strange. Forgive me for the stupid question, but are you sure your playlist is checked for sync with the iPod? Have you tried 11.1.52 or 53? These last two include this fix:
2. Fixed: Playlist selection in handheld options would not be properly loaded when entering options.
Maybe your playlist was unselected because of 11.1.51?
-
Yeah, that is what I had. It just does not remove the tracks from my iPod smartlist after i sync, it does remove them from my smartlist in the MC view after i sync....odd
also double check your smartlist. You say you had the same as was in my post, but in your previous post, you were using the reverse... [Last Played]=>d30
-
Let me clarify. The smartlist I am using is [last played]=<d30
I am using MC 11.1.53. I am still unable to get my smartlist on my iPod to update. After playing a track and then doing a quick sync my iPod smartlist does not remove the track i just played. The last played times are correct in both the iPod view and the MC view. The "get data from handheld on sync (ratings, etc.)" option is checked. Is anyone else having this problem?
-
bd6675,
I can reproduce your problem if I do not have MC set to delete files off of the IPOD.
However, if I set MC to delete files off of the IPOD the playlist is correct on both the IPOD and in MC.
Apparently when MC is not set to delete the files it leaves them in the playlist on the IPOD as well.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the quick reply. I checked to see if I had that option checked and I did not, however, after I checked it the files still did not delete from my smartlist on my iPod. I am sure I am missing something very obvious. Here is exactly what I am doing:
I initially go to "Tools" and then select "Options" and select the "sync mode- Playlists (select below)" option. I then select all of my playlists including my one smartlist (315 total). I then go under "Advanced Options" and select "Delete tracks from handheld if not on sync list" and "Get data from handheld on sync (ratings, etc.)" and then I go to my iPod in the MC view on the left side and right click on my iPod and select "synchronize".
So that is what I am doing. I hope this helps.
Thanks again,

Hello,
I think, at leas for me, the new syntax for date search is very confusing!
You said that [Last Played]=<d7 plays songs wich are NOT played in the last 7 days ... but if you are used to use this algebraic expressions > < = and so on reguarly (like me) the shown expression means the opposite (and I see in samo posts that I'm not alone ...) -> select all songs wich are played in the last 7 days ! (last played date LESS than 7 days)
PLEASE PLEASE reverse it to normal algebraic standards (or let me mow if I completely worng !!!
by the way: I big thanks for your great work on MC 11.1.xx

[Last Played]=<=d7 is items played less than 7 days ago
[Last Played]=>=d7 is items played less than 7 days ago
I've seen both posted here.
Which is which?

BD6675...I have my IPOD setup exactly as you do. Have you done a complete restore since you started having this problem? Also, which generation of IPOD are you using?
Dan
-
Hey Dan,
When you say a full restore do you mean going through the iPod updater? I have not done that yet. I have done an initialize through MC. I am running the latest ipod firmware (1.2 I think) for my 60gb photo ipod. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply,

BD6675,
I have done a full restore in the past few days but am really not sure if that is what is causing your problem....but it probably would not hurt to try.
Here is the playlist that I used to test your problem:
[Artist]=[Okkervil River] [Last Played]=<d30
I added the artist just to make it easier to keep track of when songs were last played and to make it quicker to sync. One thing I noticed after I played a few tracks on the IPOD...as soon as I hit the Handheld and chose to sync, I could see it delete the files on the IPOD immediately.

Hey Dan,
Did a full restore and still the tracks do not remove from my smartlist on my iPod. They do remove from my smartlist in the MC Playlists view. I must be doing something wrong if this works for someone. I just can not figure out what I am doing.

after some discussion, these got changed:
the prefixes are now suffixes and the use of "greater than" and "less than" is now more intuitive, so...
[Date]=<10y is dates withinn 10 years ago (stuff that isn't too old)
[Last Played]=<7d is songs played less than 7 days ago (recently played tracks)
[Date Imported]=1y-5y is songs imported 1 to 5 years ago

Am I the only one that thinks this is getting too difficult to grasp? Although I love MC, my time and brain is somewhat limited for me to experiment enough to get it the way I want it.
As I said in this topic, http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=31199.msg214652#msg214652 , I more and more long for a wizard that helps me build useful searches.
A sidenote: Why does some search menus exclude fields so you have to enter them manually, while some don't?
Thanks!
