Apple was recently sued over the design of the iTunes UI. Here is a link to the story: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1143. A 10-year old low detail UI sketch picture is used as evidence. I don't know if the case has progressed yet, but I suppose if the complainant wins they could sue many other companies that make player software.

Could this be one of JRiver projects that are in the works?

I remember hearing about all these New Deals but never actually seen anything,.

Doubt it, it says they implemented using XUL from Mozilla Firebird.

..oh and its version 1.0

Interesting development nevertheless.

Wasn't one of the deals the Audible implementation? And I slightly remember something about a All-in-one media solution where MC was the music player...

Well, this seems like good news. for everybody.
MC is being copied? good. That's better than being ignored.

Will they develop an app. with as many features as MC? Then, I would switch. But I doubt it. But the competition is good for everybody.

There isn't that much they have to get right to get me to switch... audioscrobbler integration as in amarok would be a factor. But I'm sure my list will grow as I use any MC alternative.
