Title: A UPnP question...?
Post by: JONCAT on November 28, 2005, 12:12:37 pm
Can anyone explain how the UPnP server works:

I know how to set it up but wondering if you can use UPnP like a library server with something like the Roku Soundbridge.

Will that device let me browse my remote library for songs/audio?

Or do I need a device like the Phillips RC9800i (wireless uPnP remote)?

thanks all!
JC

There are a couple of UPnP links in the FAQ here:

AFAIK, a UPnP media player will play anything in MC's library that's in a format compatible with the player.  So the Roku will play many audio formats and you can transcode unsupported formats to MP3 in MC.  If you want pictures or video you'll need another device.

I use a Philips Streamium and it works well with MC, not counting the bugs in the player's firmware.  I just ordered a Roku M500 for $99 directly from Roku.  The M500 has been discontinued but Roku still has some stock left to sell.
