Title: New in 11.1.71: AAC support
Post by: Alex B on December 01, 2005, 06:32:53 pm
11.1.71 (12/1/05)

4. NEW: Media Center natively plays m4a files through its audio engine when the appropriate filters are installed. (enabling cross-fading, ASIO, visualizations, etc.)

Great news! You never stop surprising us.

I guess MC is going get many new friends because of this. I happen to have some nice test material in AAC format for encoder testing purposes. I suppose it is time to start my MC beta testing cycle.

A question: What are the appropriate filters?

(Please post your AAC comments in this thread.  :) )

From the release thread:
3ivx filters. http://www.free-codecs.com/3ivx_download.htm

It is classified as shareware at this download site. I do not know if it expires after some days of trial. I have not found a free filter for m4a yet. If I found one I will post.

Let's see what happens with 3ivx. I have a registered version on my HTPC, but I'll try this on my other PC.

Also, any other file format that you would like to be played natively in MC?

I'll make a list. Can I get them for Christmas?

I have a small unpublished and mostly audio related wish list. I'll check it out and reply later.
